Re: vw jetta/gti's

A good friend of mine has a VR6... We have raced several times in the past. I beat him from a stop as well as the highway. Its close though.. it surprised me to!! He doesnt bother racing me anymore. I had a 96 SE last year and we raced a few times... I beat him off the line but he was pulling a bit on me on the highway witht th 96.

once my car is broken in (150 miles to go), i'm going to race my friends chipped jetta 1.8t. i'll post the outcome of it once it happens. ok, he has a stick 2k 1.8t, with the infamous chip, k&n drop-in, lowering springs(dont know what kind), and some evo5 17" with potenzas(i think), either way, he says his tire+rim combo is heavy as hell, more than stock. he also recently put in a blow-off valve. he has a dyno of a the same jetta with the same chip, gettin like 170hp & 200tq (give or take a few numbers) @ the wheels. how do you think my 2k2 auto will run against this?

Jetta

My friend has a 2k2 Jetta 1.8T, the one with 180hp, and he's talking up a lot of smoke, so we're trying to go a track. When we will, i'll let you guys know.

They probably are not a match for the 02's, but for the previous gens it might be a good run.

I just bought a 1.8T for the wife, and its pretty quick. The factory rating is 180hp and 174tq. From what I understand off of the VW forums, the numbers are underrated! A guy with a stock 1.8T 5spd got 165hp and 173tq at the tires.

** Be careful with the GLI model new for 02', because it now has a 6spd tranny. These cars with a $500 chip are putting down 200-220hp adn 220-240tq @ the tires.

well.. i guess i'll find out hopefully soon how my stock 2k2 auto will do against my friend's 00' jetta 1.8t (stick) with mods. i still got 100 miles to go. i hope i win.. my friend swears his car is the best, and i just want to shut him up with my stock car. he's very egotistical and i want to crush his ego...if i win, i know i will. since he paid around 20k for his car, and paid over 3k for his mods... our cars are around the same price range now.

We'll my friends VR6 is slightly modded...he's got an AEM cold air intake, but i can still take him quite easily. The 1.8T is another story, but i'm fairly certain that at least the 02 max can handle it with no problem.

...

Damn, I just asked this yesterday, but I'll ask again.

What does a Passat with the 1.8T, 5-speed, and Autothority chip(~35hp) run in the 1/4-mile? Hp/tq numbers?

1.8T's have really good off-the-line acceleration because of the torque curve (more of a plateau, really). Max torque starts at something like 1850 rpm and stays there till 4000 rpm or so. This gets them moving. I don't think they are top end screamers though.

I had raced my buddy's 2000 1.8T in my 2K 5 spd and it wasn't much of a race once we got moving. His initial acceleration was quite good, but after 80 km/h or so he just faded.

You should check out vwvortex.com. VW is coming out with a Golf called the R32. 3.2L 6-cylinder, 240 hp, 6-spd, AWD, and Xenon. That looks like fun.
