Wind Noise

Is it just me, or is this an issue w/ all 2k2's. The wind noise at highway speed w/ the two front windows open is ridicules. My 94 Ford Taurus SHO was much quieter and it's a Ford!!!

did you mean to say with your windows open?

if you MEANT to say open, the amount of wind noise with the windows open will differ depending on what direction the wind is coming from, i.e., if you are driving INTO the wind or WITH the wind the wind will enter your car differently and will be softer or noisier.

i've never heard anyone complain about wind noise when the windows were open before, hehe.

i put some ventshades on my car and it is MUCH quieter when the windows are up. now, they slightly detract from the looks of the car, but for now, that's okay... my maxima project is still in progress.

What does it being a Ford have to do with wind noise? I have noticed that it is best to open the driver's side window and only leave that one open. It is even better to open the back window. Something about you are creating a vaccum in the car and by opening the back window you are allowing air to enter then exit your car.

If this truly is referring to...

open windows, just crack open the rears a bit to evacuate some of the higher pressure air in the cabin or tilt the sunroof (if you have one). Kind of like a pass through for the cabin rather than an airlock.

Trust me, my Ram Club Cab (before the Quad Cab came out) is loud as hell with the windows open, BUT if you crack the 'tilt out' rear glass panels, it is a world of difference.

Crack the rear windows a little.

With one or two front windows open at speeds above 55 or so the cabin air oscillates, just like a monstrous whistle, creating super-low frequency pressure waves inside the car. Cracking the rear windows a couple inches kills it and everything is so much quieter.

Wasn't there a TSB for just that exact issue?

Yes, the back window does sound like it is open sometimes. Depending on the direction of the wind it can be worse during those times. I've had the wind noise TSB done already but sometimes I still hear it. It is the way the Max is designed.

Back Window

Concerning the back windows (on my 2000 SE), I simply went to Home Depot and bought some insulating foam tape (I believe it's the type you would put around a door or perhaps a window a/c unit)..followed the instructions on the TSB and I have no noise from the back window at any speed now (rear passenger side was terrible). I believe it's a little thicker than what the TSB called for and I put two layers on. Just my two cents. Never had a problem with the front windows. Now if I can just get the hood to quit fluttering .

What a great idea. I may give this a try.

Raise the bumpstops for the hood until the fluttering stops. I had the same problem on mine and the dealer just raised the stops. I fully expected them to perform the TSB for the hood shake, and was surprised that they did something else. The hood is still aligned perfectly.

I also had them check the driver's side rear window and perform the TSB because a passenger once complained of the noise. It actually got worse. Last week the same passenger was in the rear of the car and started complaining again as we were going to lunch. I told him to get out of the car and explained that because of him, it's worse. Funny thing is, this guy drives a Dodge Ram with the Cummins in it. Oh well. Dealer tried to fix the wind after doing the Transverse Links today and no change. I think that Nissan's glass supplier made the glass too small.
