hmmm, drafting tape is a pretty good all purpose low tack tape. it will peel off paper without ripping the paper. or there's probably some painter's tape (for masking edges) that's low tack - but that tends to come in wide strips with the adhesive only on one end. electrical tape is stickier, but flexible and should be safe.

wax the car first, that should offer some protection, and wax the areas you stuck the tape afterwards - use clay bar if necessary.

I don't know what tape to use, but don't use the painters masking tape. It's too low tack and everything will fly off.

When we did it we just stuck the bows and things to the edges of the windows.

If you really want bows going down the hood of your car then tie the bows to a piece of string and then tie one end of the string to your side view mirror and run the string across your hood (with bows) and attach it to your grill or wrap it around and tie it to the front tow hooks. For the rear you can tie strings of bows to your spoiler for a nifty effect. It's a little more work but avoids all the little tape marks you'd get otherwise.

electrical tape might work but stay away from duct tape it will form to your car and never come off thats why you see people holding there bumpers or windows on with duct tape

Go ahead and use duck / masking tape.... but tape it to the plastic mouldings inside the car. Drop a bow under the hood, tied to the release or the Nissan hamburger. Then run 2 streamers form the same location to inside the car, voila! You are a king 'cause you play the part, your car stays clean and painted and the job look A-1!

If you have a 5th gen ask one of your drunk uncles at the party to find your car.... it't the one with a bow on the antena!

instead of taping anything, why dont you just try inserting dowels under the hood in the area where the hood joins the front fenders? then you can tie stuff down to the dowels instead of risking your paint.

just a thought.

Just watch for...

hig winds or highway travel...wind buffeting of the bows will be directly transmitted down the strings to the dowels and could result in abraded paint on the hood/fender edges if not worse....

solution: be sure to tape the ends of the bows / strings to the dowels.

No, I mean the vibration of the dowels themselves. I am not sure I want to 'wedge' anything into body panel seams.

To each his own though...

There's a type of masking tape, I think it's used for painting applications, which is a blue color. I have rolls of it in a 1" wide size, it works really great. I've never seen it leave a mark on any surface.

try 3M tape for delicate surfaces...I use it for my hood edge before I put on the bras...they are nice, easy on easy off.
