wax the car first, that should offer some protection, and wax the areas you stuck the tape afterwards - use clay bar if necessary.
When we did it we just stuck the bows and things to the edges of the windows.
If you really want bows going down the hood of your car then tie the bows to a piece of string and then tie one end of the string to your side view mirror and run the string across your hood (with bows) and attach it to your grill or wrap it around and tie it to the front tow hooks. For the rear you can tie strings of bows to your spoiler for a nifty effect. It's a little more work but avoids all the little tape marks you'd get otherwise.

Go ahead and use duck / masking tape.... but tape it to the plastic mouldings inside the car. Drop a bow under the hood, tied to the release or the Nissan hamburger. Then run 2 streamers form the same location to inside the car, voila! You are a king 'cause you play the part, your car stays clean and painted and the job look A-1!
If you have a 5th gen ask one of your drunk uncles at the party to find your car.... it't the one with a bow on the antena!

--Thank You everybody for your responses....will try the string or masking tape idea
instead of taping anything, why dont you just try inserting dowels under the hood in the area where the hood joins the front fenders? then you can tie stuff down to the dowels instead of risking your paint.
just a thought.

To each his own though...
There's a type of masking tape, I think it's used for painting applications, which is a blue color. I have rolls of it in a 1" wide size, it works really great. I've never seen it leave a mark on any surface.

try 3M tape for delicate surfaces...I use it for my hood edge before I put on the bras...they are nice, easy on easy off.

ok the wedding is over and done with.....I wound up using masking tape & taped it to the body under the hood for front, under the trunk body for the back, & inside of the doors for the top side for the bells or bows or whatevers these were....FYI
