does your keyless entry cause other vehicles alarms to go crazy?

interestingly, my keyless entry remote for my 2000 SE has been causing other cars alarms' (not my own) to PANIC when i unlock or lock my own car! it's never happened in nearly two years and twice this month my remote has done this.

the last time it happened was really funny. my girlfriend and i have a large aquarium and in it we have a large variety of fish and even a hatchling turtle. anyway, we went to the petstore because a fish that we had bought 3 days earlier had died for no reason and we were going to exchange it for a new one. the fish died right on time, because the warranty they have on new fish is only for 3 days from original purchase.

so i pull into the parking lot, turn off the engine and proceed to get out. you all know the routine. i step out and turn around to watch the blinkers flash as i press the remote to lock the car and 2 cars start going crazy as soon as i press it. i didnt hold it down or anything either. it was just a quick typical push that i use to lock my car doors.

it was really funny because the parking lot was pretty full and EVERYONE was like wtf? oh wait, forgot to add, it was even funnier because being the goof ball that i am, i decided to press my panic button and have my car go crazy too.

so there was three cars all going nuts in a small, crowded parking lot. people were coming out of stores to see what the heck was going on. the whole scene cracked me up... it reminded me of the scene out of THE BOURNE IDENTITY.

so yeah, does anyone else have this "problem" with their keyless entry remote?

have any of you 5th gen'ers replaced the battery in your remotes yet? it seems like the range has diminished a bit recently in mine... hm.

yeah..

I have set off 2 cars, both GMs. its been at least a year since it happened. Both, wide open lots, no one around and they paniced the exact same time I locked. The first one I dismissed, but the second was alittle easier to see I had set it off.

Yep, there is a Buick at work that I can set off with my remote. I park near it and wait until some unsuspecting sap walks by and then kick it off.

Alright...no joke:

I bought a remote controlled "fart machine" (A small speakerbox with a remote...plant the speaker somewhere and hit the remote to get fart sounds. It's funnier than you think!) Anyway...my Maxima and my bosses Infiniti remotes both operate the fart machine!

Did Nissan pick a commonly used frequency or WHAT?!?

I have a GM car too but the Max never set it off. Although the Max alarm has gone off a couple times with no explanation.

Sounds like even more of a reason to get an aftermarket alarm with lock/unlock feature. I'd hate to think someone accidentally unlocked my doors and just helped themselves to anything in my car.

I'm planning on getting an alarm next week and also putting one of the "pain-inducing" sirens inside the car. Anybody got one of these?

Yes, definitly another reason to put a good security system in the car. Mine will be in next Wednesday.. I can then put the orig'l keyfobs in the drawr as I have done with all my previous cars.

I'm putting in a great 2 way system. It does not only page me but will let me know the status of the vehicle. IF a door was opened, if the car is running, trunk etc... Goos also to know cause it has a remote starter as well so you know if it actually started or not. Also over great distance.

It is from Compustar. They sell am FM unit or the better one which uses Spread Spectrum technology which provides a range of up to 6000 feet. They sell alarm, starter or combo as I am getting.

It is just too bad they do not have a close-up of the remote as it is really really neat.

If you want to see more info on how it works, they have the manuals available for download from their site under the support area.

As far as how much, I am personal friends with the Canadian Distributor so I am paying way less than normal. I am not sure what the normal price is but I can find out Tuesday if U wish, plus I am in Canada so I do not know the local prices in the U.S. either but it is a U.S. Product. They have on their site a number or email address to inquire about authorized installers.
