Injen Filter Cleaning Info

For those with or purchasing the Injen CAI, this is some information from their tech guy, Phillip.

Our filters will last over 100,000 miles with proper care and cleaning. They are reusable and can be cleaned with a filter recharge kit like K&N's product. The air filter should be cleaned every other oil change or 10,000 miles.

Best regards,

Phillip Phong

Just wanted to let everybody know since you might have assume they had the same cleaning cycle as the K&N (50,000 miles).

For those of you that have a 2K2, this is Phillip's reply about the fitment issue with the 2K2 Auto. He hasn't actually tested an Auto.

The reason that the 6-speed is only stated is because we have not tested this intake system on the automatic. There may be a slight difference from the automatic and manual transmission, so there may be some clearance issues.

Best regards,

Phillip Phong

He does emphasize that there should be no fitment issues between the 2K-2K1 auto and manual.

hey MichaelAE, does a tire really have to be removed to access the filter?

I wouldn't think there is any reason. I have a 2K1, but I couldn't imagine the 2K2 is much different based on photos. I would think just removing the splash guard on the underbody should make it pretty easy to remove the filter.

You can, also, always remove the intake tubing from the top and take the filter off that way. Either way shouldn't be that challenging.

one more question, i remember you live in washington, but let's say you lived in michigan where it snows sometimes over a foot in one night... would you feel comfortable using this intake in this type of weather?

Well, I used to live in Boston...so I can relate. I wouldn't be so concerned about the snow...since you clearly can't drive a Maxima IN a foot of snow. However, the slush and crap that ends up on the street after about a day of driving on plowed streets might concern me. I wouldn't be worried about that crap getting sucked into the engine, but it would probably get that filter exceptionally dirty. I'd probably clean it every 5,000 miles if I was driving in that slush crap.

Get a bypass valve...you'll still have to clean the filter and potentially remove and clean the assembly, but at least you'll know your engine isn't going to hydro-lock. I'm not so sure it really is going to matter, but piece-of-mind...somebody already said it.

Below is Phillip's reply to me, when I asked if the CAI for 2k2 6-speeds fit on the automatic's

We do not recommend fitting any intake system not listed in our application. We have not prototyped an automatic 2002 Maxima therefore we do not know if there are any changes yet.

Best regards,

Phillip Phong

I'm here in Seattle too, so I know a thing or too about rain and puddles. Does that AEM bypass valve, in fact, fit on the Injen CAI then?
