Timing chain.

Was installing my blower on my Max last night (all night, and I gotta be at work in 30 minutes argh!) - the car's almost done but I noticed something cool when putting the oil return plate on - that's a timing chain on my 2000 SE!!!

Was I on crack at 5:30am or could it really be true!!

Ok, off to work

Yeah, it's under that cover that the SC bracket is bolted to. Be careful when installing the oil return plate, mine was installed incorrectly so it leaked and cost a lot to fix.

q

I'm I correct when I believe that a chain is better than a belt and that we will never have to replace the chain

I think Nissan advertises it as a "silent" timing chain. Is that for 2K2s or is it the same for all 5th gens?

"silent" chain?? Hmm.....not so silent when I start up the car sometimes, it makes a very 'uncomfortable' grinding noise for a second or two.

this topic was brought up before...

elsewhere, but... a timing chain is a silent chain (in automotive terms)...

I think it's a Nissan marketing ploy or scheme for the less technically or mechanically oriented people.

Not really. Depending on how long you intend to keep your max. I had to change the timing chain on my saab at 187,000 miles. It was pretty expensive. But 187k out of one i wasn't complaining.
