gotta love "service engine light soon"

how do i get rid of it, i have barely over 3000 miles on my 2k2 se auto. it already went off once, and it was due to the gas cap not on right. it went off again today, but i havent filled up in at ;east a week or 2, and my car has been barely driven. is it safe to drive? im getting very annoyed with my new nissan.

Remove the negative battery cable overnight. That will reset your ECU. If your SES light comes on after that, take your car into the dealership and have them read the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) off of your ECU.

I don't know if it will mess up your car but my friend did it twice at around 25000 miles. So far right now I did not hear any complain from him about the check engine light anymore. My 2000 max at 24500 miles and so far haven't experience anything like that.

No. But you'll need to reset your clock and your radio settings.

Is there a way for us 2002 owners to ck. what codes we are getting? I know the 4th gen owners can do it themselves. 3rd. gen. Supra owners (incl. me), can ck. for codes using a paper clip, and shorting 2 specific terminals in the diagnostic box. A permanent mod is to connect a switch to both terminals, and mount the switch in the cockpit. A flick of the switch then reveals any codes the car may display. This is extremely convenient! Can we do anything similar with the 2002 Maxima?

Regards,

ShysMax

You will needs a hand-held device to check for code.
