Amsoil SDF34 filter won't fit!!!

For those of you who've been following the oil thread involving oversized oil filters available for VE and/or VQ engines, I just changed my oil and filter this evening and tried installing the Amsoil SDF 34 filter and it would NOT thread. Either the thread pitch is very different or the ID of the filter inlet is ever so slightly smaller than the OD of the mating shaft of the 2k1 VQ engine. I know there was a lot of cross-referencing done to come to the possible conclusion that it should fit, but it definitely won't engage threads on my 2k1...I guess the only other possibility is the SDF36....to be continued...

Highlander sold me the Amsoil and recommended the SDF13. It seems sort of small compared to Fram or OEM filters, but if it's what's recommended, why not?

2 reasons, about half the cost and about double the capacity if you can fit one of Amsoil's larger filters on the Max. I had been using the SDF 13 exclusively, I just would feel better if I could fit a larger one on without problems. Maybe its just not in the cards though....

Yeah, at the time, it seemed to be best to stick with the recommended filter. Since then, it's becoming more clear that the SDF-36 might be the best choice - I'm planning to switch to the SDF-36 after I run out of my SDF-13 supply. Actually, the SDF-13 was the same size as the Fram I used to do my engine flush before switching to Amsoil....

BTW, price ranking:
SDF-13 - most expensive
SDF-36 - about 15% less than SDF-13
SDF-34 - about 30% less than SDF-13

If spending $3 over what the Mobil 1 filter costs is gonna break you every few months then I think the Hyundai Sonata would've been a better purchase

dealers used to have an application guide that listed the right one for each vehicle by model...and in teh back was the COMPLETE breakdown on measurements for the filter ID OD gasket and length...there you will find a comparable part number...at least that is how I did it before.

I'd assume that a smaller filter doesn't have the surface area to clean as well as a larger filter does. So why does the small one cost more?

I apologize everyone. I've sent e-mails to most of you before coming across this thread.

I'm rather ****edoff about it.

SDF-36 does work, but the SDF-34 does not.

I'm making sure I've adjusted all threads appropriately so that no one thinks it will work....
