Amsoil 5W-30 kind of thin?

I just changed to Amsoil 5W-30 synthetic and it seems kind of thin. I live in Texas and it's usually pretty warm here, so maybe I should go with a thicker oil? I know BrianV tried 15W-50 and had problems (too thick), but there should be a happy medium.

The car runs smoother with the synthetic, but now I can hear all the creaks and rattles since I can't hear the engine anymore .

About creaks and rattles, does anyones front strut towers creak while driving? I put the OBX FSTB on a few months ago and recently noticed the front passenger side creaks, like from the dash forward. I torqued the FSTB to specifications, but the bar doesn't fit so the hood is a tight fit. Maybe that's the cause of the creaking?

Amsoil 5-W30 will work just fine.

Dude the Amsoil has the highest heat tolerances of any oil. You'll be fine. It's been close to 100 degrees every day this summer in the Washington, DC area and all of my cars are fine.

5W30 is the oil recommended by Nissan, but 10W30 is also OK, especially in the hot Tx weather. Our engine was not designed to use higher weights, and based on some other posts here, it sounds like the performance is also negatively affected by using heavier weight oils.. I usually suggest using what the manufacturer recommends (except I have been "educated" on why 5W20 is a bad idea for the wife's Accord) ...

BTW, nice to hear it is running smoother with the Amsoil.

Who would do such a thing?

Either 5W-30 or 10W-30 will work fine. I track the car with 5W-30 in the summer and I'm sure I see some very high oil temps. I haven't had any problems.

I've been running the Amsoil Series 2000 - 0w30 motor oil for about 35,000 miles now, product info. on the Amsoil web site indicates:

Race-proven technology designed for passenger car performance. Provides unsurpassed fuel efficiency and up to twice the wear protection provided by popular conventional and synthetic motor oils. Recommended for use in all vehicles requiring 5W-20, 5W-30 or 10W-30 motor oils. Product Code: TSO

You might consider this as well.

Yep, I've been using the new Amsoil 0W-30 on my 2000 car for 26 months now. No problems at all. Any evidence that the Amsoil 10W-30 is better than this newer product. Just wondering! Thanks

Nope, it's actually the other way around. The 0W-30 is better than the 10W-30 overall. Personally, I wonder if it is THAT much better than the 10W-30 to justify a $1.85-$2.40 premium in price? Of course, if you do drive 35K a year the playing field is more level. I will say that once I get my track car, the tow vehicle will be getting 0W-30 and by-pass filtration.

Been having trouble finding 5w-30 or 10w-30 Mobile 1 for whatever figgin reason and ended up running 0w-30 past 2 oil changes. No probs whatso-ever. A friend of mine that works at a Porsche performance shop told me that the 0w-30 is fine to run in pretty much any vehicle. The important number to pay attention to is the latter "30". The 0w, 5w or 10w is the starting range of the oil viscosity with a base weight of 30.

Unlike Amsoil though, Mobil's 0w-30 is worse then their 5w-30 in wear protection. I just can't find the links though.
