JETTA GLI VR6 6speed deal went through
I just need to sign papers, which I'll do Tomorrow. The Maxima is going to my younger brother, hopefully he'll enjoy it as much as I did.
say JETTA GLI VR6 6SPEED 20 times super fast and get a free sucker.

I just said it 40 times in my head... can I get a VR6 6-speed instead of two stickers?

Not to mention its tiny interior. Two of my buddies from work have Jettas. But whenever the three of us go to lunch they always want to ride in the Max.

Congrats
I heard somewhere that the 24-valve VR6 is finally here so I went and checked the specs.
2.8L VR6 24-valve
200 HP @ 6200rpm
195 lb-ft @ 3200rpm
6spd manual
Weight: 3179 lb
Look at how wide the powerband is on that thing!
Kinda heavy for a "compact" car, though. It'd be a close race, but I think my Max could take it

congrat's on the new car.
but IMHO, the jetta is a stepdown from the maxima. i'm not talking about how fast the car is either... i would consider a turbocharged civic to be a stepdown from the maxima also.
have fun modding it!

the gears on those new VR6 24V are soooo short, and if i would have gotten that engine, i would have got the Golf not a Jetta, jetta sucks assss and all i see in them are teenagers that her parents bought it for them for like 18k

true
alot of chicks drive jettas, because they are cute cars, this one gay guy at school drives one too. ever since he got his, everyone stopped driving theirs. its a good car, just not for a man. look on the bright side, you can say its european. but like everyone else said, its a step down from the max. its like having a civic and then stepping down to a pinto or yugo. why would you want such a small car, the max doesn't have enough power for you?

Jettas are like Jeep Wranglers. Two types of people drive them.
1) Hot girls
2) Ghey Guys
I'd stick with my Max any day. My friend has a Jetta, gosh it's like driving a toy. BTW, last weekend my friends and I rented Dodge Neons and drove them around like toys, was so fun not worrying about treating a car like crap. I suggest it to anyone who wants to gokart race without the gokart.

Dont expect anywhere near the same reliability with a VW as you have now with the Max. VW's can be real POS's. I bought a 99 VW GTI VR6 new and it had its fair share of problems. On cold mornings it wouldnt even start. The engine would turn but nothing would happen until I tried it 4 or 5 times. Then it would start but just stall out if I didnt give it gas. I felt like the engine was carburated. My friend but a 99 Jetta VR6 and it had the same problem. I ended up selling the car 8 monts later for a Mustang Cobra.
I dont the VW is a bad decision. Just if you are going to buy a new car I think there are alot better choices out there than a VW. My boss just bought a new Cabrio for his wife and it is having alot of problems. The car only has 3000 miles on it. When she lets her foot of the gas the car stalls out and she is unable to start it for atleast an hour. It kinda sucks when the engine cuts out when she is doing 60 down the highway and the car shuts off and the steering locks.
Good Luck!

My sister-in-law had a Golf and she ended up taking it back to the dealership and forcing them to let her out of the lease because it was a total and complete lemon.
I don't remember everything that what wrong with the car, but a few of the highlights were:
-A/C didn't work (Jose forgot to hook up the wiring in the factory)
-Reclining seat broke (she was adjusting drivers side seat back and all of a sudden it went all the way back. The seat would then not stay in the upright position.
-Oil kept coming out different colours. Once it was a milky white colour.
-Finally, thing refused to start and had to be towed back to the dealership. This on a 1.5 year old car!
Thing spent more time at the dealership then in her driveway. I know that one of the car mags had a Beetle for their long term test vehicle and they had a whole slew of issues, on of which the car simply died while being driven down the highway.
Mind you, some people swear by VW's, but QC really seems to be hit and miss.

I would never buy a VW, because of an experience I had with a New Beetle. I was revving the sh*t out of the weak little engine, and blew the automatic transmission. Good thing it was a rental!

Good lord people, give this guy a break. Its not like he traded a new Aston Marton for a Kia Rio. The Maxima *may* be faster or whatever, but both are very nice for the price. His resale will be alot higher than all of ours though.
ScreaminVQ, tell us more about the new 24V VR6. I've only driven a 1.8t.

The new VR6 24V is *****ng AWESOME , too bad the 6sp gears suck *** and they shift points are short. They have tons of torque down low just like the good ole VQ and that's fun to have in your car

If your a smaller person the jetta is a cool car. My g/f's dad got a new vr6 loaded and its awsome. If you could get it supersized it would be a great car. I think on the luxury meter its a little higher then the max, esp in the interior.

I would call the Pasat a supersized Jetta? Unfortunately, it is way pricey for the one that I could maybe (no not really) consider (Pasat W8 w/4motion). Not that I'm a good judge of automobiles but the 3 or 4 vw's that I've owned or known well were all **** boxes? However, my friends 2k 1.8t GTI seems pretty good so far. Plus it is pretty fast too. With his new Garrett chip I think he would take me up high and down low in my 2k GXE with slush box! In the end all cars suck when you consider the cost of owning them.

So in conclusion: Jettas are driven by hot chicks ang ghey guys, they are a pos, VW's suck, MAX'es frigging rule. Tell that on our threads when we are discussing: Faulty rotors, poor paint, cheap-a##ss windshields, cheap Potenzas, defective Bose systems, faulty transmissions, and I beleive the list goes on and on and on. Until we are willing to spend $30k+ for an Infiniti, Lexus, BMW, MB or any other high quality German or Japanese luxo auto, I don't think we can freely speak. I'm sure he'll be happy with his VR6 24-Valve Jetta, just as happy as I am with my 3.0VQ 222hp V6 Maxima. Next up for me will be a 330CI or a G35 Coupe. Geez can't wait to get flamed for not wanting to buy another Nissan flagship roadster again.

Speak on it!
I had an odd thought the other day.......the 2000/2001 SE 5spd is better than the new 2K2 SE 6spd.........
(daunting flame suit)

1. The Volkswagen leather is actually the hardest, crappiest vinyl known to man.
2. The super-skinny center console/armrest was originally designed for a pickup truck.
3. Cranking a **** to open the sunroof is CHEESY.
4. There are no compartments to put anything.
5. Most Jettas have hubcaps. Hubcaps do not belong on luxury cars (Nissan figured this out in 2K2).
6. Volkswagen forgot to paint their fire red ashtray.
7. Round shift ***** are really, really stupid looking.
8. When you push a button on the VW radio, the whole faceplate feels like it is going to snap off. Oh, and buttons are NOT supposed to creak when you push them!
9. Cars aren't supposed to feel like they are going to tip over in a 50 mph curve. You thought the Maxima body sway was bad??
10. Luxury cars do NOT come stock with disco blue indiglo gauges.
11. I know two guys that drive Jettas. One is a RAGING homosexual that I work with (seriously). The other is a rich mormon kid whose daddy surprised him with it. Need I say more?

I know its your money ScreaminVQ, so I won't disrespect your decision. But did you ever consider getting a certified used E36 M3 from BMW? They also come with an avail 4dr. And though they only have a 5speed version of the manual tranny, I don't know of any 6sp manual sedan that can come close to hanging with it (with the exception being the 2K2+ M3).
asu174, You are SO RIGHT about the Passat. It's RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. The sticker on the topend model (W8) is several thousand more than a 2K2 Max GLE, G35, ES300 or 3.2TL Type S WITH less options AND less performance.
What was VW thinking? I know it's German but it ain't a BMW or MB!!

Wow....Why is everyone flaming this guys purchase??? The Jetta is a very nice car. I would have personally gotten a 1.8T over the VR6 though. The interior of the Jetta is nicer than our guys. A lot of people in here are very biased towards there Maximas, but you gotta give credit where its due. VW/Audi right now is the industry leader in interiors.

Wink, wink..... Uh, yeah you're right the Jetta has a much more luxurious interior than the Maxima!! Wink, wink.
In all seriousness, the Jetta VR6 has a great looking exterior and it is a solid, reliable ride. But from a luxury standpoint, you cannot even begin to compare it to the Maxima.

Having test driven the Jetta two years ago, roght before buying my previous car, a Honda Accord V6, I would dare say, it more closely compares to that car. It is a nice car, but much like the Max, is not king of several diferent classes.

One of my best friends bought a Jetta. He basically bought it for his wife because she thought it was 'cute'. We both thought the car was a cheesy chick-mobile. Turned out to be a big POS too. They drove the car for about a year before trading it in.
I'm not flaming the guy who sold his Max for a Jetta. I'm flaming the Jetta. No self-respecting guy would be seen driving that car. As I've said before, there are ALOT better options in that price range, but whatever.
