Is there anyone out there that is actually going
to try and modify their BRAND NEW AE auto shifter?
I spoke with Dave the day I received my shifter,
yes, he is very helpful in giving me suggestions
on modifying it, but the one suggestion he stressed
was just to wait and see if anyone comes up with
any other answers. He did try to explain how to
remove the O/D button on the new shifter, but when
I tried, it only seemed like I was damaging it.
I'm real picky about my car and the last thing
I want to do is damage a brand new part I bought
for it. He also told me that if the part doesn't
work and I feel like I don't want to put it on,
I can return it. If I decide to return it, after
trying to remove this button, will Dave really take
it back if it is all JACKED up? Believe me, I tried
my hardest not to jack it up but just by putting
the little screwdriver next to the piece and trying
to pry it off, puts a little mark in the shifter,
there is nothing you can really do. Along with trying
to modify the shifter there will also need to be some
modifications to the white tab on the piece below the
existing shifter. (Shaving) Not to cause any problems
but I do think since Nissan had all the parts
surrounding this part listed as the same between
the two years in the parts schematic, that they should
do something for those people who purchased this
part. Again, I do want to stress that Dave did all
he could to help all of us, I'm not trying to bi**h out
Dave here, but I do think Nissan itself can do
something for all of us.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and if you
do have any input, please post it.

Howie

Check with Paul2kGXE on this. He'll have plenty of input for you.

Funny you mention it... I was just working on mine. Tonight was attempt #2. I was able to pop off the OD/main button portion. I used a solder iron to take out the excess plastic from the internal part. It came very close to fitting. The holes were just missing by the width of one screw. I could see the holes nearby. I then decided to hold off and put the old shifter back on again. (I can do it with my eyes close now... LOL) I forgot about shaving a part off the other plastic piece on the stalk. Now that I read that part, I'll give it another go. I'm taking pics as I go. If I ever get this done, I'll post an install page.
