hoses and wires

I want to change as much as I can to red hoses and wire housing, is there a best brand to use (i.e. most durable) or will any brand work?

Yeah, mdeal gave you a good spot to pick them up. Prices are good. They don't make a car-specific kit for either the '00-'01 or the '02-'03 Maxima, but you can buy the Universal starter kit and cut the tubing yourself. I have just done up my engine bay with their SuperBlue tubing and it looks pretty solid.

how easy was it to replace all of them? Also do you have any suggestions for the spark plug wires?

When you say spark plug wires, are you referring to the swooping cables that loop around?

DO NOT buy the custom maxima stuff. It is crap. You MUST crack the big one to get it to open up, which leaves a crack running the ENTIRE lenght of the hose.

Also, the dye BLEEDS! It got all over my front bumper and interior. Paint thinner wouldn't even take it off. I had to use serious elbow grease with Dissolve It to get it off. There is a small mark on the interior of my door by the trunk popper that won't come out.

JC Whitney has a kit I wish I had bought for $15.

Just buy the silicon hoses and slit them down the sides and cover those wires and cables with a larger hose. You can replace, flat out, a lot of hoses...radiator overflow, all the little breather hoses around the intake, etc. The ones that are not carrying air or water (like the throttle cable), you can just cover those with another hose.

If anyone has pics of the hoses replaced on a 2k2, that would be cool. Also, i have an Injen CAI coming and it comes with red hoses, does it match the FLOred or regular red hose techniques?

I would guess you are closer to matching SuperRed and not FloRed. I'd order the sample pak if I were you. HT will send it priority mail to you and it will have a sample of each color for you to compare. They will refund the cost of the sample pak (no s&h refund) if you order a full package from them. It is $10 and worth getting to be sure.

Why worry about seeing the hoses replaced on a 2K2. The 2K1 and 2K2 are going to look about the same. Here is one of the favorites...Y2KevSE's hose job. Borrowing Kev's picture here.

To answer the other part of the question, most hoses are easy to get to but a couple are a PITA. Overall, it just takes time and you need to ensure you don't forget to put any back on.

I, too, took some HT hose and slit it down the middle to loop over those swooping cables.

Wow, you get your Maxima in a lot of mess to find this stuff out. Thanks for it, it lets others know what to avoid .

This is the kit you're talking about, right?

JC Whitney hose kit

Looks nice, but limited color selection. I'm not sure what color to do for my super black SE. I was thinking chrome, but maybe red.

RED! Red looks awesome on black. Check out the custommaxima.com link that says "see our customers". There's a sweet charcoal one in there with red. Actually, here it is.......

Yeah, I have crappy luck, usually caused by my own stupidity, but this time it was 100% the product's fault. There was red dye EVERYWHERE.

BLUE looks really nice on the Gray Lustre. Blue and Gray are a good combination. Man I have to get around to taking some pictures for everybody.

Sweet looking, but heavy. If you're more interested in performance than style, they might not be for you.

I almost did that but I want to keep it normal for resale. I believe it is painted. I would use a high heat engine enamel. You can get it for $4 at Pep Boys. That is what I used on my lids (washer fluid, etc).

I got the kit asu174 was talking about but in blue you get 10ft each of these sizes 5/8,1/2,1/4, and 3/8 diameter. here's a pic.

I want to get silicon hoses for the rest.

Was that kit enough for the car? Did you find that you might have been better off buying specific diameters separately in larger quantities than 10 ft? Thanks...it looks good.

I found it to be cheaper to just get it from NOPI by the foot, but I live local to NOPI so I didn't have to mess with shipping.

It all depends on how much you do. I have no 5/8 left but about 4ft each of the 1/2 1/4 and 3/8.

If this is for a 2k2, then there are a lot less hoses to deal with, thus a shorter installation time. For a 2k/2k1, it took about 5 hours to do. Here's a pic of my engine bay:

Hose Techinques hoses

The hoses don't appear milky looking in real life and everything matches perfectly.

Nice-looking install. Why didn't you do any of the larger-diameter hoses?

Thanks. I didn't do any of the larger hoses because the largest that hose techniques has is 10mm (internal dia.) and if I slit the hoses, the slit would show. The only real option is to loom them, but I haven't gotten around to looming them yet. One of these days.
