Low End Power Loss W/ Intake...

Ok, I have a question. Probably a stupid one, but try to be nice mmmkay.

I see a lot of old posts concerning low end power loss and high end gain w/ the install of a Berk intake. Maybe my question pertains to 5 and 6 speeders rather than the autos, but who cares?

I can generate all the torque I really want off the line. The trick is to let out at the perfect rpm as to NOT spin (or minimally spin) your tires, right? I want more power when I hit 4000 rpms, not when I'm coming off the line, right? I would appear to have enough off the line power already. If you lose 10 lb.ft. of torque off the line, (where you don't need it), but gain 10 lb. ft. through the weak part of the power band, where is the problem?

I know that I'm probably waaaay off base on this, so help me out.

I have a question for anyone out there. Nissan was no help with this one. I have a 2k1 5spd and a 2k2 6 spd. As you all know the 2k1 makes its 222hp at 6400rpm. The 2k2 hits its 255hp power peak at just 5800rpm. Driving these two cars one after the other (the 2k1 is my wife's) makes the 2k2 difference very apparent. To really compare I want to know how many hp the 2k1 makes at 5800 ---the rpm at which the 2k2 is peaking. In the old days they used to put hp and torque curves in the showroom books. I had all this stuff for my first Maxima, a 1991 SE 5 spd with the old Sport Package (anyone remember that?) ---Frank

What does this have to do with this thread? You might want to delete this and start a new one.

I've always beleieved that an aftermarket intake doesn't 'take away your low end'. Whenever I put on my frankencar, all I noticed was gains....from bottom to top. Just get one and dont worry about it.

I agree. I've never felt a power/torque loss at lower rpms with any intake (cold air or "hot air" cone intakes). I think people perceive there to be a low end loss because with an intake, the car gains more in the ~3800-5000 range than below that, thereby making a more pronounced torque surge at ~3800. People think the torque surge is due to a loss below rather than a gain above 3800.

yea i agree. i have a frankencar intake and the growl at 38K+ rpm makes it seems as if there is a loss of power at the low end, which isn't really true. It only seems that way in relation to the power in the high end.

Hi Frank,

At the top of the page (right hand side) you'll see a "post a new thread" link. (Not way up top, but you'll see it.) Juat click that and you should be set.
