Wood trim kits.... and Tint... Comments??
#1
I really want wood trim in my max se but dont want to spend the 60 bucks a piece for door handles from nissan! I Might get the consol piece for 85 though.... Anyway what are your thoughts on stick on wood kits no matter who from. Ebay has them for 109 or 110 or 140 and the joshua tree is about 200 bucks.
And what are your suggestions on tint??? I really like the mirror type tint like on the lexus rx300 or on bmw's but i also like limo tint. What do you guys have?? Suggestions??
Thanks,
Adam

I recently bought the Italian Burlwood trim from Joshua Tree for my Y2k SE, and am very happy with the results. If you look at the trim closely, it is obvious that it's just stuck on. However, the overall effect is very nice, and one doesn't notice that it's flat trim unless one looks closely...

Black tint
Personally, I dont like mirror tint, all it does is make your windows stand out. Why would you want people to look at the shape of your windows. Also, on the Max SE, black tint makes it look complete because of the black trim on the taillights, but, maybe thats just me.

So based on what U Guys are saying the Joshua Tree Trim Looks like a stickon? man thats not good news. does the Factory Look different?
As far as the tints go, Make Sure your state doesn't have any laws regarding window Tinting. %5 which is Limo tint is not allowed in some states. In NC where I live %35 is the limit but I got %20.. I'll worry about that when my inspection time comes. until then I'll enjoy my tints ThankYou.

jashua TREE
their dash is stick on, it comes on a flat peice of card board when they send it to you (no bends) so what you do is you heat the back side of the sucker to make it nice and soft for easier application and it'll bend flex to the shape of your console. but the factory one is alot better, the peices actually are made outa either wood or the wood look-alike plastic. the add on kits (jashua tree) don't completely wrap around yuor dash (2k max), it only covers the flat part of the center console and not the sides of the radio, ac, ac vents. it's not bad tho. imo wood add on kits dont' look nice, unless it can wrap around and make it look oem, but carbon fiber dashs look nice either way. IMO

tint
well if you live in a real hot area where the sun is scorching hot. it keeps the light out along with the heat. my car is black and it gets more hot quiker than other cars. the tint does really make a diff. the interior of my car still gets hot but not as fast as it did when ididn't have any tint at all.
oh maxima zero.. keep inmind that the interior trim is made outa poly propane. well some parts are, so the paint will chip of easily.. but if you don't mind then do this. sand the parts down with wet sand paper. that like 1000 grit or something or 300 i forgot. wipe it with rubbing alcohl using a lint free peice of cloth. and the paint should stick better... do multiple coats and 2-3 clear coats at the end. it'll look real nice.. i suggest using car exterior paint. so u get that (this came factory) look.
the above are just suggestions on how to accomplish your goal. i am in no way responsible for your failure while attempting the project.

I don't understand this urge to customize a good looking car just for the sake doing it. If you wanted wood trim you should have bought a GLE in the first place. As far as tint is concerned, it's a mindless attempt to cut down on visability, especially at night.
ya................. Are you like 100 years old and hate everything that is different from what you do??? Well unlike you my eyes still work great and tint doesnt cut down visability for me at all. Your not tinting the front window btw, plus in 120 degree Arizona tint is neccesary to keep the car cool and keep the interior from fading, or cracking, etc... I didnt want leather or a soft ride or 16" rims so thats why i didnt buy the GLE and got the SE instead. If i want wood trim on it i think ill buy just wood trim instead of a whole car that includes it...

Tint or Wood
Well, I've got my windows with 20%. At first it was for function but I like the way the car looks now. I would recomend it for anyone with normal eyesight. My tint looks darker from the outside than from the inside. My wife has less than perfect vision and has no problem with it.
I also like the way it dims the lights at night specially from SUV on my rear.
As far the wood trim is concern, I like the OEM but not the kits. For now I'm very happy with the black plastic that comes on the GXE, it matches the black gage cluster well.

LOL. love you disclaimer. as for how im gonna go with my dash, im still torn it'll be a while.
to the gentleman to who inquired why i would want to mod my car to look better instead of getting an se...
1. im lucky enough as it is to have the max gxe, let alone a car at all
2. even if i had an se, i would still swap out the wheels, get a custom dash etc etc
3. im a ricer at heart.
4. i am your typical teenage cali azn kid that lyKeS taH taLk LiKe dIs n ShiZ.
5. i have the spiky colored hair.
6. i sport the phat polo sport and old navy. i listen to trance and hip hop. rock and everything else sucks.
7. http://www.asianscene.com is my favorite website in the world.
8. i love five foot gtr style spoilers on 89 preludes.
9. 21" chrome neepers are the phattest, illest shiz since chopsticks were invented.
10. i claim that i buy my pants 10 sizes too big so that i will 'grow into them'
11. i think im either black, filipino, or a skater.
12. i think francine dee is hot.
all of the above may or may not be included but are not limited to the reasons why i want to modify my maxima.

i can completely accept the fact that you dislike it when people make alterations to the car. i can see where you are coming from. but lets say if you were to blow it up a few scales larger with another example. a house, some people like their house the way it came, others like to remodel it, "keeping it fresh". as far as tint. some like it for the cooling effect it has on the interior, where as others like it simplyfor the looks. it's just like why people choose to go with certain colors of their car.
for some people whom like to modify cars may not have had enough money at the time to get a ferarri, so they intially have purchaced a maxima, a car with great potential not to be like a ferrari or if so you can say a four door ferrari, without that hair raising price. so i hope this post will help further your understanding of why some people would "modify" a perfectly good car. perhaps you are 100% saticefied with your car, but others may not be.
this is not at all a flame, its' jst an attempt help you understand why certain peopl emight do certain things. i am speaking for myself however i believe many other will agree.

When I see a car on the street with those small tires sticking out of the wheel wells, flames painted on the sides, fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror, and a loud boom box blasting the neighborhood, I see a driver with low self-esteem who's looking to be noticed, and I feel sad for him.

I know that many of you who participate in this web site do it just to get advice and share ideas on modifications, but to me, and I know I have a minority opinion, it's just silly. But I do have the right to that opinion.

there's nothing wrong with taking apart a perfectly good car and substituting parts - customizing the car to your personal liking. i can also understand that some people wouldn't want to do that.
if the fact that some people like to customize their car bugs you, this is your own problem and you shouldn't take it out on those who do. we can be a bit more accepting here, nothing illegal is taking place. if you want to feel sad for someone, fine do that, but what's the point in posting it here? this thread is for people who like customizing and want advice. i don't see what's so hard to understand about this, some people want to personalize their car, they want it to be unique like themselves, they don't want it to be like every other maxima on the road - big deal.
do you want other people to feel bad or be bugged too, like you? well, maybe we do, about narrowmindedness.

Bob what U R talking about here is someone who doesn't like to be part of the general public. This is the reason why me and hundreds of other maxima and other car owners put after market parts in their cars. Some are Silly and Only Satisfy the Owner Taste, Some Do make sence but Are not avalible on the car b/c if the manufacture put them on the car the price of the car would go up. so they leave it to the Public to do whatever they would like to do with their cars. but the Auto makers are begining to notice that people don't want plain cars anymore. Just take the 2K SE for an example. Compare to 5years ago and now. The car comes Sporty from factory. Has the bigger Rims Ready to go. Look at BMW. their cars already come with body kits, lowered, larger rims..
As far as the thing on the tints go, I got them so it keeps my car cool inside in the summer, also makes the car look nicer. we are not in the stone ages now where the only tint that was in the market was Black and was for Gangsters and thugs who when haveing them installed on their cars U automatically figured this guy was up to no good. Tints these days do serve their purpose, and they are not just a sheet of paper U stick on the windows. And Tints these days may look dark from the outside but they are non reflective from the inside so U can look without much problem. thats why almost All Minivan And SUV Makers have %5-%20 Tints on them from factory.
Now The Dash Trim. I think U need to look at Maxima prices again. The SE Fully Loaded Costs More money then THE GLE so its not a matter of Weather U can afford the car or not.
Not Trying to PISSOFF At U or anything, just trying to make U realize that your opinion these days will get U in a fight with someone b/c These are not like the old days when Tints and Audio Systems meant the Driver Behind the Wheel was up to no good.

tint film manufacturers
getting down to the point of tint films..has anyone actually researched the various ones out there??
There's this product called Llumar. Some tint shops use it and it's supposed to be the "best"
On a German Llumar website you can actually try out various shades of tints with various car colours. It seems weird but they show tints that are slightly colored green , platinum, blue, etc. So, are there any other reputable tint film manufacturers out there that you guys are aware of????
