help with intake install!

This is one of my first mods other than FSTB and clear corners, so please be patient!

I just need to know how to remove the black 'plastic screws' on the front part of the stock 'scoop' that brings in the cold air.

Other than that I've got it all figured out!

Thanks for your help.

see those are two piece plastic? it is actually 1 cicular plate laying on top of the other...just use a flat head screw driver and stick in between and yank it out.

you have long way to go

I left mine in to direct colder air to the intake. You'll notice the front of it sags down when the rest of the oem stuff is gone, so I just made a bracket that supports it from the underneath. I used the screw hole directly behind the battery to attach the mount. Then I just ziptied the air director piece to the mount I made. Its been working well!

if you still want to remove the plastic things, I think you need to unscrew them a little and then pop them off.

The problem I had with leaving it on was the fact that it may actually restrict the amount of air coming in. I know there have been several debates on this...I guess it's just a judgement call!

it routes the air to the air filter...without it, air turbulence is more random.

You don't have to relocate anyhting. I just zip tied the Boost Sensor and the Temperature Sensor somewhere else. But now since I have the Frankencar Intake I had to use the Temp. Sensor in the mid pipe. Anyways, to get that scoop off was a pain. I just ended up breaking the plastic screws because I stripped the holes.

...so, is it best to leave it on or take it off?
I'm getting different answers here!

That's because you're talking to different people. There is no good conclusive evidence that the scoop is detrimental or beneficial, so everybody's opinion is just that...and opinion. Form your own opinion and do what you want.

Personally, I left it on while I had the Berk and Frankencar intakes, but have now removed it with the Injen CAI.

Leave it. I ran an ooglie cold air intake through it and it points in the general direction of my intake. This seems to be the best approach.

BTW- Check out the "how to" section under cold air intake if you have no idea what I am talking about....

I left mine on......
