I agree with you, I bet the sales on the 03's pick up when people see that thing. that first pix with the side profile really doesnt do it any justice at all.

nice series of pics, but...

the whole thing looks horrible...the dash setup looks like a file cabinet with a monitor! its boring, bland and cheap, reminds me of something you'd buy at Sharper Image! the exterior is a whole other pile of puke...look at the body shape is sooooo unappealing and "non-sporty". I know they want to mix the Z and Maxima, but the result looks HIDEOUS....the rear is horrid and stubby, IMO the last REAL Maxima died in '03!!!

The First Person.......

Who figures out a way to get rid of that ugly "tooth" on the front should get a Nobel Prize!

I like everything about it but that freakin' "tooth"!!!!! (okay, maybe I'm obsessing here...).

All I can say is that Nissan is going to have to offer AWD and/or LOTS more performance to even tempt me to trade in my 2k1 SE on one.

I think the other drive train option is AWD...it can be done even with a transversely mounted motor as long as there is room for the driveshaft.

Well, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it will look better in person than in the photos... The new Altima, G35, and Murano were not as bad looing as I thought they would be, so I'm guessing the new Maxima will be about the same way

By the way - is it me or does that interior shot tell us it's a 2+2

Can't wait to see it in person when it comes to Chicago!!!

Your right I am looking at a Murano Brochure and that Steering wheel is from the Murano and the dash design is very similiar to the Muranos and the Alti and Z are sort of similiar. It looks good in the Z and Alti but in the Murano I saw at the dealer yuck.

Uhhh, this could be the weirdest looking car nissan has ever produced. Anyone know any other car that looks so insanely crazy as this beast?

The more I see the more I like it... but the tooth has to go. With an aftermarket mesh grill it may look good.

Info on the 2004 Maxima

It pretty much says its gonna be 260+ hp, with an elite package where it has a 2 seat backseat (but thats just an option). It does not talk about AWD anywhere in that document.

I looks decent to me and the interior looks really good.

Nissan to unveil all-new Maxima

The all-new 2004 Nissan Maxima continues the formula passed down from five previous generations - an unmatched blend of performance and luxury. The sixth generation Maxima combines traditional Maxima performance with expressive sports styling and bold innovation to create a top-of-the-line sports sedan.

An aggressive new exterior design captures the characteristics of a performance car and a luxury sedan all in one, with a chiseled, muscular shape and pronounced character lines. Inside, the expressive design theme continues. Standard on all models is an industry-first Skyview™ Roof, which creates an open environment for front and rear passengers while maintaining a solid roof structure. An optional Elite Package 4-seat layout gives the interior a distinctive sports car-like design, further separating Maxima from its competitors.

One thing that has not changed is Maxima's legendary performance. Maxima is powered by the award-winning VQ 3.5-liter engine, increased in 2004 to 260-plus horsepower. An all-new multi-link independent rear suspension provides superior handling and increased ride comfort. The 2004 Maxima is scheduled to go on sale in March 2003 at more than 1,100 Nissan dealers nationwide. Highlights of the 2004 Maxima include:

I love it!

I love the '04 max. Now if only Nissan keeps the price somewhat reasonable.

That truck though...boring! That's gonna flop. Even the Toyota Tundra (Toyotas are pretty boring) looks much better. However I do like that 5.6L sign on the engine. I wonder how much power it generates.

The Quest! That thing is hideous! What's up with the dash???

18" rims!!! 245??? wholy crap... that's some serious potential performance and handling insinuated in those options!!

So long SE, GXE, GLE?? now it's SE, SL?

More horsepower lies from Nissan, maybe this time the engine truly produces the stated power.

Two auto trannies!! One is more of a tragedy than the other.. can't wait to drive the 5-spd auto... we all know what the 6-spd and the 4-spd feels like..

I would think much of the new hp and torque comes just from the new exhaust setup.. engine bay looks the same.

Can't believe the Max will have 18's... std. on the SE..wow

The text says that the new Skyview roof is standard on all models, yet these PICs seem to show a basic moonroof. What's that about?

I also find the following interesting:

1. It's interesting that the SL comes standard with a 320w stereo while the SE has the 240w unit, both with 8 speakers ( dual subs? ).

2. They are also adding an Infiniti item within the optional Elite Package - auto sunshade.

3. Xenon headlights are optional on SE.
