Five speed auto question
Alright, please let me know if this is a repost or idiotic so I can delete this post.
Is their any chance the five speed auto can switched out for our four speed unit?
I know anything is possible with enough money, so my question is, can this be realistically accomplished?

"That new 5AT is a different story, though. The gearing is much closer together than with the old 4AT. Even if the ET's are the same or slightly slower, the trap speeds should be up from 92 to around 94 or so.
Here's the gearing layout...
1st: 47
2nd: 72
3rd: 111
4th: 165
5th: 220
5th is obviously a very tall cruising gear, and 4th is the highway burner. But 1-3 are much closer together now and should give improved 1/4 mile and around town pep. The old 4AT was set at about 45, 80, and 128 which was much taller and wider."
The above is a quote from SteVTEC. He explains it better than me. I wonder what the 1/4 mile times would be with this tranny in the lighter 02-03's? Think you could run a simulation on that SteVTEC, just for fun.

It's tough to get CarTest2000 to give accurate results for close comparisons like this because it has a lot of trouble in its launch algorithms as far as getting accurate 60' times. Running both cars from a 5mph roll-on eliminates the launch issues and eliminates one of the bigger variables for a more accurate/consistent comparison.
So running from 5mph...
02 Maxima 4AT: 5mph to 1/4 mile: 15.28 @ 92.2
02 Maxima 5AT: 5mph to 1/4 mile: 15.04 @ 93.5
Because the tire's rolling diameter of the 02/03 is smaller than the 04, this would have the effect of shortening the final drive ratio a bit more, so the 5AT gearing would look about like this on an 02/03:

4th: 149
So you could potentially gain a little over two-tenths on your ET, and about 1 mph on your trap from this swap. Probably not worth the money considering the enormous expense (the actual tranny, all of the shifting/control hardware, new ECU, technical issues).

Thanks for running than simulation. Yeah a swap would be beyond my means. I'm sure someone will do it eventually though.

I'm looking for any advantages/disadvantages for swapping from a 4AT to a 5AT in a 2K2-2K3. I believe(read guess) that the major difference is going to be in how the 5AT uses it's closer spaced gearing, especially once you hit 4th gear.
Just simulate a couple different senarios of higher rolling starts to top of 4th and 5th pleeeeeeease.

From a 70 mph roll-on, the 5AT walks the 4AT, but not by a whole lot. There is definitely no ownage occuring. The difference at 1 mile is 0.2s (2.5 car-lengths at that speed).
For a 00-01, the results are a little better, with the 5AT swapped car now pulling about 3 car-lengths.
The reason there isn't much difference is becase of the new gear spacing arrangement. With a 5AT you will have much better performance than the 4AT up to about 100 mph. But look what happens after that. The 4AT is still running strong in 3rd gear up to about 130 mph. But the 5AT car is running in 4th, which goes up to almost 150 mph - a taller overall gear with less power at the ground. At the 1 mile mark from a 70 roll-on, the 4AT car is actually going faster (pulling) than the 5AT car. But not enough to make up 2-3 car-lengths that were lost.

Now if the 5AT didn't have such a tall final drive we might be in business, right? Also, what about the 18" vs. 17" rims, does that matter much? Basically, did your comparison simulate the 2K2-2K3 w/5AT having 17" rims?
BTW, there is no 2K-2K1 in this picture, I was just curious about swapping a 5AT into a 2K2-2K3.
