Grill

If they just took the tooth out and only used the Nissan Emblem, it may be tolerable. Grill is a little too tall as well. I still think the new Quest Grill is less gaudy. Nissan is trying to make that "Tooth" a brand marker like the venurable BMW Kidney Grill.

I agree, if the tooth was smaller (& body color on SE models) and if the grille was narrower and wider to reach the headlamps, it would look alot better and give the car a wider stance. However, I do love the texture in the grille.

Everyone look, it's a fat Altima.

Sorry Nissan I'll be buying the GTO. Ya it might look boring, but at least it's grill doesn't look like it needs braces.

Ya know, I think so too. Other than the grill (like everyone else) I think it's actually a very respectable looking car. The grill may grow on me, but I think if I bought one I would defintely be looking for an aftermarket grill as well as springs/struts with about a 2 inch drop.

the only good view of that car is the back view. the cornering lights remind me of the Guyver cartoon with those things on the side of his head.

At the la auto show, it didnt seem that good. The grill is pretty bad i think. The huge nissan burger doesnt look good either.
Overall, the car even looked smaller than the altima.
The lamps on the side of the front bumber look worthless from up close.

The rear looked good with the dual tip - dual exhausts.

The interior didnt seem like it was made out of quality material either.

Overall, I was hoping I would like it, but I dont think it met my expectations.

Re: LA AUTOSHOW PICS(large)

wtf? i didn't even see the new max at the LA auto show. maybe i'm just blind or it was so ugly it didn't even catch my eye.

looks like the max has styling cues from other cars...that tooth thing from the diamante, the grill w/o the tooth kinda reminds me of the cts, and of course it still kinda looks like an altima.

i think ya'll are bashing the max cuz of its unorthodoxed design. i thought the t-bird was the ugliest car when it came out. now i kinda see it as a classy/laid back kinda car.

WOW that is an ugly car! Things seemed to head straight downhill after the 4th gen. Time to head over to BMW and pay the worthwhile price premium!

I cannot stand the front

The front is ugly! Also, I don't get how so many people call say that the Maxima has been going downhill since the 4th generation. To me the 4th generation was the ugliest, especially the 1995-1996 models with their sagging buts. At least for once, the Maxima looks good from the rear, the front is just ugly I think.

beyond ugly. Too bulky looking, crappy grill and headlight assemblys, and those fog lights look like they are searching for garbage on the side of the road.

Am I correct in recalling that the 5th gen (and maybe the 4th) were designed by Nissan studios in California? I read where the 6th was designed by Nissan design in Japan. Must be the problem. The designers are out of touch (like by an ocean) of what the public likes, including most of all...us!

Perhaps with a redesigned grill, which by Nissan's timeline will occur for the 2006 model, it will shed its hideous front-end. However, I don't know that there is any hope for the interior. I don't think those get any attention until it is time for a total overhaul.

And I have to ask...why IS a total overhaul necessary? What is SO wrong with evolutionary design? A revolution wasn't necessary where the Maxima is concerned!

Everyone is afraid of Change

I personally like it! I just wish the fogs weren't integrated into the headlights. I would like seperate fogs. If I had enough money, I would trade my 5th gen for one.

Just came back from Philadephia Auto Show and the new Max is NICE!!!!!!!It was one of the nicest cars there. They had a burgandy one there on the platform and would not open the doors. I forgot to bring my digi-cam to take pics but most of U saw the LA auto show pics. The front grill is NICE IMHO. 265hp, FWD, and IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE AND ALTIMA!!Reminds me a little of the G35 and 350-Z but MUCH BIGGER!!!. The sales guy said it will be priced from $28-34K (As some of U already know) INTERNET PICS DO NOT DO JUSTICE TO THIS CAR!!!!!U MUST SEE IT IN PERSON!!!!!The sky-line sunroof DOES NOT open like a sunroof, it just lets light shine in instead. Only gripe I had was the rather large wheel gap in the front but that's minor. The front grill finishes off the look in the front and the rear is among the best I've seen in a long time!!!!It should be available around spring (Mar-April)U MUST SEE THIS CAR IN PERSON IN ORDER TO FULLY APPRECIATE IT!!!I love it!!!!!!!

You guys are so damn funny!!

Everyone is talking about how nasty looking the car is (the grille, the back, the fog lights, blah blah blah......ok the grille is nasty..lol) but I remember when the 5th gens first came out and everyone flamed it for how bad it looked and how the back was so nasty and "i'll never buy that!" quotes (and yes i was one of them that flamed it). I know that some you people are gonna go out and get a 6th Gen. Just like when the 5th gens and even when the 4th gens first came out, the look will just grow on some people. Nobody has even drove one yet and I know for a fact that if the performance of this new max is great, even more people will overlook what they don't like on the outside for the performance they get when they slam down the accelerator. Let's face it, we are (well most of us) are addicted to the Maxima mostly in part for the power it kicks out and once companies begin to make mods to alter the appearance of this vehicle (hopefully the Grille first..lol) even more peeps will break down and purchase one (except for me of course cuz I'm poor ) Just my .02

Overall, I like it as is... yet, the 2K4 has a lot of potential to look 10x better with a little "addons" and "cutdowns".
