2004 Maxima, What do we think?

I'm curious what everyone thinks about the 2004 Maxima. I'm sure it's a fantastic car, but the look of it is just not quite so unique, It's sortof falling into that VW/quasi-future/Accord type look.

I still think 4th Gen is the best. My fam's got the 03 and It's a helluva car, but it's just not as light on it's feet as the older one, that's the only thing I didn't like about it.

But that aside, Tell me your thoughts about the 2004!!

I like it.

But I'm not planning on trading any time soon. I'm going to pay my 99 off in about a year or so and then just save hardcore for a house and drive this sucker into the ground. Why trade cars if I love my current one?

If something did happen though and I needed to get a new car, it would be a very close race between the G6 Maxima, a Mazda 6s, and a used 98/99 Lexus GS400.

Or another 4th Gen manual if I could find one for less than half the price of any of the above.

i just read a review on it, and it doesn't impress me...they are turnign a littl too rich ppl ish, ya know...and the styling is too ambitious...they really just should have kept 5th gen styling...with new taillights, and then made this new maxima a new model...they could call it the....MIDIMA then we would have the Altima, the Midima and the MAxima!!!

although we are important we do represent a very SMALL percentage of the maxima population.
to please us would be great, but what about the average old fart with a maxima? thats where their real revenues come from.

I think its a Nice car but they should have a special anniversarey eddition of our body car with the new Maxima engine, The new Maxima Runs 14 Flat Stock, I bet in the hands of a good driver could easily do better, Also All you guys should hate Road And Track, They said the 2k3 Maxima runs 15.9, My 4th Gen runs 15.3, They also said the new Accord runs 15.7, Such bull crap, what are they smoking on man,

Acura TL Type S gets my vote! Ever notice how the interior, i.e, the dash, looks like an evolution of the 3rd gen max dash...check it out...you'll see what I mean...that is what Nissan should have done.

huh?

The 2003 Accord V6 will run 15.0. MT got about that and an actual owner has a timeslip backing it up.

No 02/03 or 04 Maxima has run 14.0 stock, nor will they ever most likely. Not stock. The best times here are 14.2-14.3 for the 02/03's.

Mags only have a certain amount of time to test the cars. If it just happens to be raining or 110F out and high humidity, then so be it. Every other car they test in comparisons will be affected by the same amount, but in the grand scheme of things it will make the car look bad. That's why you should take individual mag times like a grain of salt and instead look at the overall averages. Put all the mag times together, take out the fastest one and take out the slowest one, average them, and that's probably pretty realistic. If there are enough tests of the same car, you can do some more fancy statistical analysis' too

Car and Driver talked about the loyal following that the Maxima has had and said that some of it's staff has had three. The also quoted Nissan as saying that the new aggresive Maxima will appeal to this loyal following. Car and Driver agreed that the styling is much more appealing than the 'carved bar of soap look of the 5th gens.'

I couldn't disagree more. Nissan has obviously made this car for the masses because of the success of the altima. The bubbled up maxima can only offer slower times over the altima, other than that there is no clear distinction.

I am sad to say that because of the 6th gen, it looks like my Maxima following will stop as far as new cars are concerned. The sedan styling of the 5th gen 3.5 is what I like and what I will get should I get another car, or maybe an altima(for the power and price.) I will in the future only be a VQ enthusiast because the new maxima has turned it's back on everything that I liked about the previous gens, a sleeper sedan at a good price with nice flowing lines and great power.

Despite what some people feel about the 5th gens styling (02/03 really look good), the styling is unique as was the 3rd gen. You cant confuse it with an Altima, where as the 6th gen really isnt to unique at all!

Exactly, clean lines and nice body molding is much better than a rolling bubble. The new max not only will confused as an altima, but a freekin Saturn Ion.

As far as the appearance and performance, Maxima is still a nice car to have, but for 2004 it went more luxurious route. I dont think the 6th gen is the car for me, though. The 6th gen doesn't have enough power, carries a Nissan name, and way overpriced.

For $30+ grand I want the damn name, the service, and to be kissed in the ***. This time around the Nissan has moved the Max a bit too high up, reminds me of VW with their poorly-selling W8 Passat sedan.

Acura TL/CL series is due for redesign this fall, and will come out with like 280hp!!

What the heck. The 350z is okay, though I don't like the way it is small and round like an Audi TT. The new Altimas and Infiniti G35 sedan/coupes also look pretty nice as well (those tail lights suck!). Though, this just takes the cake. Nissan already made 1 mistake when they decided to save some dough and switch from a FR layout on the 1st gen to a FF layout on the 2nd and up. This is even worse. The 6th gen looks FRIGGIN UGLY! Nissan is dead to me. To me, there is no such thing as Datsun/Nissan now. There is only someone that uses their once great name for making ulgy cars. I'll tell you this much, if I ever met "Nissan's" new automotive design engineers, I would kill them! I think new Nissan's have lost the "spirit" they used to have.

I agree! Roadster, 240Z, 260, 280, 300ZX, 510, 240 SX, NX, 200SX, 810/Maxima RWD with all around independent suspension, RWD with an inline 6 cyl. What happened? Even the Pulsar was a hit.
