04 Maxima is already selling under sticker!!

I just looked at carmax.com and they have 1 04 Maxima for $30,258. The Altima went at least 6 months to a year before they discounted it more than a couple of hundred bucks.

Go to Carmax.com, select new vehicles in Baltimore/White Marsh.

2004 Nissan Maxima SJ 4D Sedan

Stock Number: 1759278
Exterior Color: Liquid Silver
Interior Color: Black

No Haggle Price: $30,258*
Destination Charges, Dealer Prep: $0
MSRP: $32,430
Factory Invoice: $29,499
Savings from MSRP: $2,172

In 2002 the dealerships were gouging big time on the new Altima while they still could. For 2003 the new Accord is out with the same 240HP (although less torque), 5A/T instead of 4A/T, and a much nicer interior. Guess what? Altima's are going for INVOICE now.

Nissan has no choice but to discount the new Max's pretty heavily because otherwise they're treading on the heels of Acura, Lexus and their own Infiniti's.

Yes, there are some deals. I accidentally went to this Mossy dealership through the
web(meant to go to Houston site) so I decided to see if they had any 2004s in inventory.
They have a few. Looks like the dealership is discounting $1000 of MSRP.

Choose the Max!

After looking at the prices it hit me...

No longer will you be able to into the Max below 27k(msrp).
Look at the lowest 2003 price(~22,900) and now look at the
lowest 2004 price (~28,400). Looks like it is definitely moving
up into a new class at least price wise!!!
I really want to drive one to determine if I like it but I haven't
found any in inventory in Houston yet. I keep thinking that
maybe I should have waited for the 2004 but after looking at the
base prices I wouldn't be able to afford one with the options I
wanted. I got a real good deal on the 2003!

Well with any new car launch they push the higher equipped cars out first. Everyone does it. While you won't see 22k anytime soon, you will probably see 25k out the door deals in a few months.

New 2004 Maxima SE starts at: $26,950 MSRP
Old 2003 Maxima SE starts at: $25,xxx MSRP

But the new Maxima has a TON more equipment than the 5th Gen, so when you level the playing field, there's hardly any price increase at all. Also, the GXE model is gone. They only made a very small percentage of those (less than 5% maybe) from 2002-2003 because they figured people would go for the Altima 3.5SE instead. There is no point in a GXE Maxima anymore.

So if you want to play the game of new prices vs old prices and whine, be sure you're comparing equivalent cars. The new Maxima is just as affordable as the old one, unless you're looking for a price leader GXE, in which case the Altima is your choice.

When whining comes down to $$$ then yes I have to play that game.
I wasn't comparing the base msrp's of the SE's. Just noted that
if you want to get in a 2004 Maxima "now" you’re going to pay 28k+.
If you want a 2003 Max 22k+ is a great deal. The 5-6k is a big difference in the pocket book. Some people just love the Max and
would not want to settle for the Altima but Nissan seems to be
hitting their target of moving people into the Altima arena with
the slight price increase of the Max. I would love to buy the 2004
but Wifey wanted the car this year and 2004 isn't coming down anytime soon!! Just called my buddy at Mossy and they have
a 2004, I'm going this weekend for a test drive if they don't sell it by then. I may have 2003/1997 but I would like to give a full unbiased opinion on this car as soon as I drive it!!

04 invoice pricing

Swallac2, Where do you find out invoice prices for the new Max? Edmunds.com doesn't list them and claims they're not available.

I still think that the 02 was the start of the upgrading of the Max with all of the features the GLE and loaded SE's have including NAV, memory seats etc.

Carmax shows the invoice price of each vehicle. Just go to Carmax.com and search for new Nissans in the Baltimore area.

i'm not surprised at all, many of nissans customers are getting scared away from the maxima's infiniti-like price

well not exactly true. some of us have money to buy more expensive cars 'cept when in a more expensive class the cars have greater expectations that the max does not fully meet
