First/Only time I saw one it looked really nice, and it was the orange/rust color.

In my opinion...

The interior is gorgeous, but the exterior is rather bland. This is nothing new though, as no generation Maxima has never been exceptionally attractive (sorry bud face the truth boys, it cannot compare to Benz and BMW in styling). I'm sure once we see some pictures of a sporty edition with a spoiler it will become more appealing.

The 3rd gen was a good-looking car back in 1989, but besides that, you're probably right that Maxima has never had it in the looks dept. It has always been about HP and price at the expense of resale value, handling, fit/finish, looks. I'd say Maxima is gonna have a tough time until they change the name because Accord and Camry keep getting awards and good press. Nissan must be grasping because the 6th gen grille seems like a serious mistake. I can't understand why they can't get styling right, it's not rocket science. It's no coincidence that every Civic and 2-door Accord resembles a 3-series or Benz. Guess what Nissan, style sells cars. With $299/mo 325i leases I think the nails are in the Maxima's coffin.....

There was an '04 at the dealership when I bought my Z. I won't buy another Maxima until the 6th Gen is redesigned.

I gotta argue that. I think the 97-99 maxima is a very good looking car. Maybe I'm just biased

Don't get me wrong, I have a '98. If you want to choose the "all-time" best write-up on any Maxima, it was the 1995 when the style changed. BUT, the "rump" was controversial. They smoothed it a bit in 1997-99. I think most of us will probably reach that age anyway when we can afford better and move on so who cares what Nissan doesn't do for the Max (that age is late 20's early 30's for me). Heck, some 18 year-olds have already moved on to track model 350's, so we can't be that far behind!

If I recall correctly, the first 2 years of both the 4th and 5th generation Maximas weren't too well received styling-wise either. I remeber first seeing the 5th gen in MotorTrend and thinking to myself that the 5th gen was ugly as sin. Guess what I drive now?

I donno, I’ve always liked the latter of both those generation, I personally think the ’97-’99 looked better then the ’95-96, I have to say the same about the 5th generation, the ’02-’03 looks more attractive to me then the ’00-‘01

the 04' is a nice looking "family sedan" i think nissan lost all hope for a sports sedan after 4th gens. they are just getting way to big and boaty, what happened to nible, torquey, sporty looking maxima?? and the grill on the 04' makes me p*ssed off just looking at it. but like said earlier, if you want a fully loaded SE maxima, why wouldnt you just get a 3 series? although its smaller, it an all around better value. nissan needs to wake up and strike gold like they did when they introduced the 95' se

Value is a very difficult term to define. Since i'm heavily in debt with college loans i didn't want something that would cost an arm and a leg to fix. Bimmers and MB's do malfunction and have as many problems as any car line. In the new MT there's a 1 year update on the BMW X5 they had, and the list of things that had went wrong was awfully long. So to me, unless i really had the dough, there's no way i would even consider buying an MB or BMW right now, even if i got a really good deal.

Cool, but I guess you dont know th buying demographics of Maxima's. The average Maxima buyer is in his early 40's and has an annul income of 80,000+ so these people definately could afford a 40-45K car but they know a good value. I am in that income bracket myself, as far as the 350 it isnot percieved no better than the Max in the real world and is in the same price range.

i agree the 97-99 was almost there, and then the models just continued to move toward an older market... i can say my 97 has been MOST AWESOME and for that reason alone I would consider a new Maxima in the future, but now seeing the new designs, no thanks ...im now undergoing cosemtic surgery on my 97 , in the end i will be living it up in an even cooler car .. thanks nissan love my 97 5 speed ..!

I think the 02/03 SE's look great as well as the 97-99 Se's both stock. The 92-94 GXE in certain colors like Pearl White, white looks great and everything else is just ok to me 85-88's 89-90's,95-96 and the 04.

It's in the eye of the beholder. We just got our 04 last night and I can't quit looking at it. With my 6 figure income, I could drive any other car for the money. But why? I had an LS400 for 6 years, been there done that. On any given day when I had a choice of driving my 93 Maxima SE or 93 LS 400, the Max won, and that didn't change, ever. Now there are 2 Maxima's in our garage: my 02 SE and the 04 SL. We have the best of both worlds, I think. The new Max has the kind of features you can't get on Lexus or other premium brands for the money. It is true I will tend to think of my 02 as kind of the last "old world" Maxima, but the new Max is bringing in buyers that never shopped Maxima before, yet it is all about power, handling, and refinement today, just as always. Yeah, I'd love to see a Maxima like the old 3rd gen (to this date my most favorite Maxima ever), but that won't happen and for good reason. Today's Maxima is taking the Nissan brand to a space in the sedan market that it couldn't enter before, and Nissan has to be there. Don't knock the car folks. I hope when I'm 60 that Nissan is still around building the kind of cars they do today because there isn't much else out there that I care for. I certainly don't intend to be driving a Buick!!!
