my take on the 2004 max
I am not into it that much. I have seen 2 of them on the road. To me they look like weird station wagons. After the front seat doors i disapprove of the design. i think nissan could of done 10x better.
From the inside it is a beutiful car. I got to sit in a leather SE at the Atlanta auto show. Nice nice nice. BI would not buy it cause of the outside. As other members are saying go for the g35 or I35.

G35 is a better bang for the buck if you're satisfied with less interior room (and those annoying seat control switches). For me it's too cramped, esp. with sunroof (hard to find G35 coupe or sedan without sunroof).
Looks like Nissan has built in a hefty profit margin on Maxima MSRP so there should be a lot of wiggle room on pricing both now and in the future. (I personally don't believe invoice price means much, I doubt that's what dealers actually pay).
Both Infiniti and Nissan have pretty bad resale value compared to other Japanese makes.... so neither is a smart buy unless you plan to keep the car for a long time.

After watching the commercial, reading the brochure, and seeing the '04 up close at the dealer, I'd have to say it's slowly growing on me, but the front of it and the skyview roof still leave me puzzled. Inside looks sweet though, haven't gotten a chance to test drive one to get an overall feel for it, but absolutely a test drive is in the works.
So far I give it an 8 (could improve after a test drive)
