Nothing here; 3 weeks. HOWEVER:
My car came with 2 minor paint flaws that should not have made it out of the plant. One is some trash under the paint layer...looks like a hair but is lint or something. The other is a clear coat run on the edge of the rear passenger door. Both affects are on the driver side. Now, I'm pretty lucky that I live 10 miles from the plant in a neighborhood full of Nissan employees and in particular, QC and manufacturing engineers. My car is actually going back to the plant to be corrected, as well as being an actual "case study" if you will of what went wrong that shouldn't have. The guys were shocked at what they saw, and I know from other sources inside the plant that at least 5 QC ee's have lost jobs over lapses in performance related to the Maxima.
Therefore, I urge each of you to go over your car as soon as you can to look for any cosmetic flaws, i.e., trash and/or clearcoat runs, and report them to your dealer asap. I didn't even notice these spots until I waxed the car last week; they are really that hard to notice. A buddy of mine that bought an SE, black had 2 flaws in his paint, as well: very tiny piece of trash under paint on front side panel and slight "smudge" near rear light. Some weird stuff going on that really doesn't make sense. These guys don suits like the astronauts wear in these paint chambers. Makes one wonder about the equipment being used. Well, not for me to figure out but I'm sure they will or some more head will roll.
...what I'm looking forward to is driving the SE 6-speed that this particular engineer happens to be driving while he takes mine in for surgery. And it is the radiant ember loaded to the "max".
Sorry for the long post...but thought this topic pretty timely and wanted to share what I could about this issue. ALSO, my car was #3424 in production (you can know this by observing the last 6 digits of the VIN. The "8" represents the Maxima line and then the 00000 digits to the end represent the sequential production number. Particularly if your car is earlier or maybe around the same number as mine, you may have something going on, as well.
Let me know what you find. I'll pass any and all information I can onto my neighbor. They are all over this problem and want it fixed!

I had came up with a theory that the cars that are produced in Japan such as the Maxima and 350Z, the paint chips very easily.
With the Altima and 04 Maxima being produced in the states now, and due to different paint laws, the paint is tougher?
It might be a possibilty`

protection
I would strongly urge all new car buyers to get a clearsheild on your cars. I got one one my 01 max and it has survived 54,000 miles with no problems so far. Mine covers the entire front end and side mirrors. It is made by 3m and if you do a search on this site, there should be a link to their website that sells them and lists install places.

It will be expensive, but I think it's worth it.

Clear bra and paint chips
Please let us know when they have finished the clear bra for the 2004. I, for one, would love to get one for my 2004, especially when my 2000 had so many huge chunks taken out of the front end.
Incidentally, $375 for a new windshield. Had the 2004 for three weeks before some a**h*** truck threw a rock.
