Some Interesting Statistics
Back in the middle of April, I started tracking the '04 Maxima inventory of the 4 Las Vegas area Nissan dealers (2 in Las Vegas, 1 in Henderson NV and 1 in Bullhead City AZ/Laughlin NV). I was hoping to find a car that had been sitting on the lot for a while that I could make a deal on. It didn't work out for me. I ended up buying my Max out-of-state.
During the last 1-1/2 months, the 4 dealers sold 48 out of 82 (59%) cars in inventory.
By model, they sold 33 of 52 (63%) of SE automatics, 4 of 8 (50%) of SE manuals and 11 of 22 (50%) of SLs. So the SE automatic is the clear leader in both total sales and percentage of inventory sold.
By package, they sold 16 of 25 (64%) with no option package, 11 of 16 (69%) with the Premium Audio package, 5 of 8 (63%) with the Sensory package, 6 of 16 (38%) with the Driver Preferred package, 6 of 6 (100%) with the Journey package and 4 of 11 (36%) with the Elite package. Buyers seem to want either a car with fewer options (and lower cost) or the Journey package with the nav system. Ironically, the Journey package is the one package that's not available with the manual trans.
It's also interesting to track total inventory over the last 1-1/2 months. In the middle of April, they had 35 cars in inventory. During the last half of April, they received 8 additional cars while selling 24 reducing their inventory to 19. During the first half of May, they received 10 additional cars while selling only 6 increasing their inventory to 23. During the last half of May, they received 29 additional cars while selling 18 increasing inventory to 34. Up until a couple of weeks ago, they were selling (or trying to sell) cars at MSRP. Now that they're receiving cars faster than they're selling them, I'll bet you could get one a lot cheaper.
