Can The Fog Lights Run Without the Headlights?

I noticed in one of the photo's on the Nissan Website that The Burnt Orange Maxima has the Fog Lights on ONLY with the Park Lights. Is this a modification or does it come like that from the factory?

When I had my 96SE, I seem to remember there being a mod so that you could run the fogs without the low beam headlights. Logically, it should be a similar mod to get this to work with the 04 Max. Anyone willing to take a stab at it and post some instructions? Any Nissan techs have any details? I'd love to have mine wired this way as well.

What is the benefit of this? You can do a search and find dozens of threads about it but it seems to be for looking cool not for function.

No Max can do this without modification but whats funny is the 02/03 Altima you can, I see them going down the road like that all the time.

I've read the book over and over again and under fog lights, it says that during the daytime, with the switch on auto, and the fog lights on, only the fog lights, parking lights will be on. However, that's not true. I'll ask the service department at the dealer the next time I go in.

There's a foglight re-wire mod that you can do

Thats one thing that I didnt like on my 98 Max, I just bought a 03 Altima and you can turn on the fog lights without having to turn on the headlights. Im suprised the new Max dosent do it.

Yeah I know that it can be modded; It just stood out to me that in an official nissan photo that the mod was in place. Another reason I'm asking is because i know that the 02/03 Altima's have this function and was thinking that the new Maxima had it since the photo shows it that way.

"What is the benefit of this?" (ie. having the fog lights on without the low-beam headlights being on).

Answer:
When you need "fog lights" because of a fog, you want some light but not too much light. With too much light, the excess light is reflected back from the fog into your eyes, making it more difficult to see. This is the reason you should never run you high-beams in a fog.

In a heavy fog, you should be able to see better with only the fog lights on and not the fog lights plus the low beam lights.

Looks like Nissan was trying to save money on the control system for the lights. If there is a modification available to allow the fog lights to work alone, please advise.

Also, I checked with the dealer tech where I bought my 04 SilverMax. The only way the stock fog lights will work is with the low beams on. If you turn the high beams on, the fog lights go out.
