Nav Upgrade

Anyone have any info on upgrading to a Nav if you did not purchase one with the car? Looking to get the factory Nav. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I am sorry I do not have any input on the change out method. However from the looks of the things its not going to be easy. There are more buttons if I am correct in the NAV version and the screen is slightly larger. So you will probably need to change the LCD (Duh), the buttom system behind the dash. The front dash panel... and not to mention I am not sure if the NON nav versions have the DVD panel on the front passanger panel.

I asked that question of a couple of dealers before I ordered my car. One told me it couldn't be done. The other told me it would cost $6,000!!! I'm not sure that I would believe either one of them because everything else they told me was wrong (see Confusion Reigns ...).

Realistically, I think you have three choices:
(1) Buy a new car with the nav system.
(2) Install an aftermarket system like the Garmin.
(3) Do without.

It would be interesting to see what the differences are between a car equipped with the Nav System and one without. I suspect it's more than just the cable and the screen.

The mirror is also different. With Nav, the mirror has no compass nor button for compass. That's all in the Nav.

I would also be interested in seeing if I can retrofit to get the factory Nav. But I'm sure that would cost more than the $3400 CAD they quoted me for that option - at which I had scoffed as too pricey for a nav system. Now I'm realizing I really like toys, whether or not I need them, so it would've been cool to have it. But I've got to control my spending.

Don't you just "LOVE" your car?????
I love mine... just got through wiping it down. Here on the east coast it rains 50 percent of the time these days!
As for the nav... I would have it if the car I bought had it. Happens, it didn't. If I had to do it all over again, I would have insisted on the Nav and memory seats. I still would have gone with the SL as I didn't like the ride in the SE. I would have wanted the memory seats as my wife drives the car most of the time and every time I get in it, I have to move the seats all the way backward (6'1" tall). As for the Nav, I love gadgets! So what if I want it to tell me how to get to the local 7-11!!!

Check out the Garmin Street Pilot III (top-rated by Consumer Reports). It sells for about $700 - $800 on Ebay. Also see garmin.com.

LDLDL,

I didn't think there was a choice on the SL for memory seats. I thought that was standard for SLs. Maybe that's only in Canada, eh? The only option I could pick with my purchase was the Nav system, everything else was standard including mud guards, mats, power tilt/telescope etc.

It depends what package you got. You can get an SL without the driver preferred package, which means no power tilt, etc...
