Splashguards?

Does anyone have pictures of the car with and without splashguards so I can decide if I want them or not?

No pictures, but I can tell you that I've been to plenty of dealerships here in the DC area, and I've seen precious fex Maximas *without* the splashguards. Seems that most of them are installed prior to delivery to the dealership. They're color matched to the body, so I'd recommend getting them. They look nice to me.

They are really small though I don't know what function they would serve.

I have been around the block with my ordering dealer on this. I didn't want them, because they break the smooth lines of the car in my opinion and they will trap dirt and salt underneath them. The dealer said that spalashguards are "port-installed options" for the SL model, meaning that all cars are predrilled (rear fenders only) and arrive with them when the dealer receives them. The front guards (which stick out the most) use pre-existing holes that attach the fender to the fender liner, and can be removed, restoring the original appearance. The rear guards-if removed-leave two small holes in the plastic fender portion of the bumper cover. I'm going to remove mine and fill the rear holes with plastic bumper repair compound and paint them to match.

Trust me you won't evn miss them they really don't stand out on the 6th gen if that is what you are concerned with and like I stated before they don't look like they will be functional.

My dealer says that you can't get an SL without them, because they will install them anyway at the port of entry (your local distribution center). However, on the Nissan website, you can design a car without them. Conclusion: one more way to get yo money!

If I could get a Maxima...I would have them...but they are tiny compared to the ones on the 5th gen and especially the ones found on the 4th gen. The 4th gen. had some big splash guards.

I would have to vote FOR splash guards. My car came without them. It has never seen rain; just some occasional wet roads from sprinkler run-off. I'm putting splash guards on the car. They look fine (being body-colored) and should provide a measure of protection for the area behind the wheels in spite of their small size. Check out these pictures:

But if they goof and include the splash guards on the car you order, you might not notice. They are color-coded and very small. My wife and I both commented on how small and unobtrusive they were, and wondered if they give much protection.

They come on around 90% of the cars leaving the factory. I scan all dealer inventories within 100 miles of Atlanta every night checking the '04 Maximas, and I have seen only three SLs (out of several hundred) without the splash guards.

Well, you'd better get a written agreement from the dealer not to charge you for them if it comes with them, and then they try to tell you it cannot be ordered without them.
