New Option at Nissanusa.com

I just noticed that if you configure a Maxima at nissanusa.com there's a new option listed -- Xenon HID Delete (-$150). What's that all about?

I...personally like the HID lights. Of course they're a pain when driving down a dark road and someone else has them, but then I think....Hey, I just gave the guy who just passed me the same headache he gave me!!!!!

Once in awhile, someone will flash their brights at me, thinking I have mine on... I wish i could see the look on their faces when I actually flash mine back at them... hehehe

The look on the people's faces is usually disgust that is mine when i get flashed by HID. I like them because they are bright especially if i am following someone i can see what they can see a few cars back.

When I "flash" them back I leave them on for a couple of seconds so I can see the look on their faces... PRICELESS

One reason they allow you to opt out of HIDs is probably HID lights theft epidemy in NorthEast (NY, NJ, etc). People have them stolen numerous times

I haven't heard of one person that has had the 04 lights stolen. From what I have heard, this issue is with the 5th gens, not the 6th gens

The reason this hasn't been a problem w/ 6th gens and altimas for that matter, (IMO) is not all of them have HID's. They're an option for both cars, so thieves take a larger risk in not getting any HID's if they target those cars. 02/03's are easy to spot, and they know there are HID's in there right away, just by looking.

Actually, I beleive it has to do with the way they are attached. They take a lot more time and effort to get out. There is a good thread on it somewhere in here.

My opinion is it will only be a matter of time before it is a problem for 6th gen's also ( HID THEFT) By not making HID's standard on the 6th gen. Nissan created a "market" for stolen 6th gen HID's I still dont understand why Nissan did not make HID's standard in the 6th gen......considering it is more pricey and "upscale" in the marketplace than the maxima it replaced (2K2/2K3 HID were standard). As for the 6th gen lights being more difficult to remove.......it is only a matter of time before thieves figure it out.......dont they always.....

I want to design a car alarm system that shocks the craps out of people if they mess with the car. like giva an audible warning first then zap em good. that would prevent HID theft cause they would be a hurting pair

good idea, make sure you save a lot of money for your lawyer fees... you wouldn't be the first person to go to jail for that.

Yeah, if they are carrying around a cordless saw-zaw because I think they have to cut the hood, quarterpanel and bumper to get them... that shouldn't draw too much attention. Probably easier to just tow the car away
