no, there is no possible way to fix this... except to bend the other one to match.

lol

bring it to the dealer and complain, they will fix it

I'm in the same boat, except my right muffler hangs a tad lower... when I bring it in for an oil change sometime next month, they said they will adjust it.

I've already taken mine in for that. The left muffler is a little lower. Hardly noticeable... in fact, I did not notice until I measured. Dealer said, they can't fix that. They would have to bend the pipes but were not willing for fear of damaging them.

No offense man, but if you had to measure in order to notice, then it probably isn't too bad.

my left muffler is crooked and off to the left, like the two left pipes one pipe is down and the other one is up, basicly the muffler itself, hangs down to the left, where the right muffler is straight.. make sence??

Yeah, you're right. Maybe I'm getting a little too nitpicky.

I know this post is repeating one I made a month or two ago in another thread, but I can't help but wonder why between twenty and thirty percent of the '04 Maximas have tail pipes/mufflers that are so misaligned it can easily be spotted at a glance from behind the car?

Some folks may need to measure just to confirm their eyes are not playing tricks on them. But no ruler is needed. I have seen cars where the tailpipes were several inches below the bumper on one side, but virtually touching the bumper on the other side. I have seen cars where the two outlets on one side are exactly level, while the two pipes on the other side are so unlevel as to appear they are not supposed to be level.

I realize this does not affect performance. But it is such an easy thing to check as the car leaves the factory. And so disappointing in a car of this class.

Build quality woes - I bet it wouldn't have happened if the car were built in Japan.

Look at the G35s or the 350s.

I think it is a little quick to jump the gun on Japan VS USA manufacturing.......however that being said, I think it may spell trouble for more serious problems down the road. What I mean is...... to me that is a large lack in fine-tuning by letting cars out with obvious flaws. I dont own a 6th gen, but I do like the quad-tip exhaust, and if I saw one on a dealer lot that were not even I would stay away from that car ( due to the obvious plus worries about the car that could not be so easily seen) By the way, coworkerwas test driving a 04 Max white SL yesterday and guess what......the exhaust tips were way uneven.....I was like WTF?..she said she wasnt going to buy that one...but a silver SE that didnt have such a glaring flaw...Again only time will tell if Nissan has made a seamless transition from Japan to US manufacturing with the Max, and I still feel it is way too early to judge that.

I do agree that it is way to early to judge.

I think this is a reflection on the dealer more than anything. I don't know what causes the tail pipes to get mis aligned but the dealer should make that adjustment when the car comes in.

Any dealer with half a brain would do this (ok, this may be a stretch), it is like putting a dirty car on the lot to sell... not too bright. Mine was either adjusted ahead of time or never had this issue, the pipes are aligned perfectly.

"I have seen cars where the two outlets on one side are exactly level, while the two pipes on the other side are so unlevel as to appear they are not supposed to be level" ok my 04 max is like this but the other side isnt as bad as written above.. "its not so unlevel" but u can tell its alittle off... its something thats small but very very annoying... but dumb dumb me didnt notice when inspecting it before i picked it up.. i was to busy checking for sctaches and dings on the car.. theres none of those... EVERYTHING else is tip top...

Hmmm....no one has mentioned this yet but when I took a look at the underside of the 2004 maxima I noticed that the mufflers were clamped onto the tailpipes with exhaust clamps, i.e. not a part of the tailpipes but separate. I'll admit that I did not scrutinize it very closely but I think that it can be adjusted/straightened if you were to loosen the clamps, turn the muffler so that its aligned properly then retighten the clamps.

Here is a pic showing the clamps circled in red.

Could be the simple solution, good observation.

thanks to you guys, i checked more closely the exhaust pipes.

while the dual pipes on each side are perfect in relation to each other, the right set of pipes is a touch lower than the left set.

It's not extreme, it's actually not that noticeable, just wanted to thank everyone for making me notice

I found that those clamps have rusted already. Did you notice any reddening of the metal? Just wondering how easy it was to loosen them and whether you used a torque wrench to re-tighten. How did you know how much to tighten?
