Mossy Performance Grille

now available (article at nissanperformancemag.com)

It's the same as the other billet grille you've seen, but with emblem i think it looks a lot better.

I really like that, but I've grown accustomed to my tooth

That's an awesome alternative for someone who doesn't like the tooth though - nice find.

yeah, same here. I really like the tooth. I like the way this one looks though, much better with the emblem.

I have also grown to like the tooth a little more. This is a much better version of the billet grill, the nissan emblem really helps. I still wish the grill was a little more like the G35 or similar to the 5th gen design.

That is not bad, the last one that was in here was around or over $1000, which is definately not worth it. $240 is a fair price.

Yes, I agree the Nissan emblem helps, however I would still prefer to see a grill similar to the G35......

Are there any retailers discounting them down from $240? While its not such a bad price, it's still a tad expensive for me. Hard to justify to the wife.

The $240 is Retail so I imagine that someone might have a lower price.

It would look much better without that vertical line through the middle, and I know Trenz makes grilles for other cars without it (assuming this is a Trenz grill).

I kind of like the fact it has that vertical bar in the center, and the crest too.

I'm worried about the longevity of the piece. Should it last a long time? Even with the harsh salt filled Canadian winters here?

yeah. i was an avid hater of the 6th gen for a long time. i even went on the 6th gen pages and mouthed off here and there to spread the hate. and i got over that. i saw it in person and still hated it, but less. i finally realized that i hated the fronte grille perhaps most of all, as it made the whole front end look odd. i am glad they are making aftermarket grilles that at least are passable. the aftermarket grille shown here is still not quite there yet as it looks kind of slapped on, not integral enough. but it is in the ballpark.

It's kinda like when the "Hardbody" first came out. It had to grow on you, get used to the change, then everthing else looks old. Look at the old 720 series trucks now!

often, innovative designs are too ahead of their time so they are rejected. then they are copied, accepted. and by the time the innovation is finally "ok" or cool, it is time to move on and leave the sheep behind. perhaps the maxima is an instance of that. the car does turn heads. "what the h*ll is that?!"

the 6th gen is cool from different angles. i generally like it. and i used to hate it totally. but i always will hate the stock bucktoothed grille thing. in a way it cutes up the car, but it is awkward. now they're putting it on sentras. (??)

Isn't the redesigned Nissan Quest getting the 04 Maxima tooth grill? Isnt that wonderful? A minivan with a Maxima grill? I understand trying to establish brand identity............but come on....... All Nissan' seem to be getting the same steering wheel, which I dont seem to care for, heck from what I am seeing even the Infiniti's have the same kind of steering wheel.......for some reason looks cheapish to me?

The thing I disliked most about my 2000 SE was the steering wheel. It had a wide spoke that covered the area from the 4:00 position to the 5:00 position. That is exactly where I have kept my right hand since driving a Studebaker in 1949.

This was not a huge deal in driving around town. But on long trips, it was so very uncomfortable I usually let my wife do the driving. For a person who loves to drive, and has driven over two million miles in fifty-four years, that is a frustratingly sad situation.

The steering wheel on the '04 is a pleasure to hold. It is exactly perfect for me. As to the looks, I'm very happy with it. Looks fine, feels perfect.

As to the grill, that was also my least favorite part of the new Maxima, but I convinced myself I could grow to love it. But that was before I found it would be duplicated on all Nissan products. Seeing it on the Sentras lined up at the dealer last week was not a pleasant feeling . . .

lightonthehill,

mod the car. change the grille. on the 2k SE, you could change the steering wheel.

'49 Stude. don't know that one. have seen in person a '51 Stude. looked like aircraft fuselage. interesting car. have never seen post on the org by person aware of or old enough to have had a Stude.

rock on.

You're not alone, light. I learned to drive on a '51 Studebaker, bullet grill, 3-speed on the column. And now I have a 6-speed Maxima so, if my math is correct, the Maxima is exactly twice as good a car as the Studebaker.
