can you turn your navi into a dvd player ???
I don't believe it can be done. The screen is, from what I've gathered, a low-res TFT display, meaning that picture quality would not be very good. Moreover, I cannot imagine being able to utilize the existing controls as DVD controls.
I thought it would be a cool idea, too, but in order to execute it, one would have to spend gobs of money, and they'd give up a pretty fine nav system in the process. It would be far more advisable to simply install an aftermarket, headrest-based mobile system for the rear passengers' enjoyment.

Is the PS2 capable of handling bumps in the road if it's housed under the passenger seat? I have yet to see any documentation from Sony that confirms any kind of skip protection or high-end buffering that would keep speed bumps from screwing up your game of "Vice City," but then again, it seems like a lot of folks have PS2s or XBoxes installed in their rides these days.
For my makeshift mobile system, I got a two-socket power inverter ($80) and a portable, AC-powered, 5.6" screen ($150) that slides onto the PS2 and opens up similar to a laptop. My passengers can watch movies or enjoy video games that way -- I watched "Die Hard" on the way to my in-laws' home a few weeks back, much to the chagrin of my wife, who was forced to drive while I knocked back brews and took in an action flick from the comfort of the passenger seat.
Plus, everything can be moved into another vehicle or into the house easily.
Another recommendation: the Logitech wireless controller for the PS2 is a reliable and comfortable device. It ain't cheap, but I'd think having cord-free controllers would be advantageous in a mobile environment.

You know, you just made me remember how my friend has his truck setup. This option is for the absolutely cheap though
He took one of those hand-held DVD players and got some velcro and mounted it on the top of his dash in his Silverado, that way he can just pull it off the dash if he wants to take it somewhere. As I said before, cheapest route

There is a cheaper way to add dvd and TV to the screen its from a company called ave electronics their webiste is http://www.avelectronic.com/Nav-TVTuner.htm I spoke to teh owner and he said it is as simple as splicning four wire behind the dash. The unit costs about 550 and prob and other 150 for the dvd player. I am just concerned with the electrical system in the 6th gen. I have heard a bunch of wierd stories and read alot about actory warranty being voided. Be carefull and if you succeed in doing this get some pics up there....By the way if anyone is wondering about an incar PC check out http://www.gnetcanada.com/factoryintegration.htm
