RPM drops

Hi everyone, I'm new here but have been a reader for awhile. Has anyone noticed when you excellerate to about 30mph and let off the
gas pedal the rpm drops drasticly. I haven't been able to figure this out. Anyone else have this problem?

Isn't that what it's supposed to do when you let off the gas? I don't really see it as a problem....but then again, I'm never letting off the gas at 30. That's just me.

I know the rpm is supposed to drop but not from 2000rpm to 900 rpm in a fraction of a second. The rpm needle throws itself down then jumps back up but my speed stays right at 30mph.

normal take off speed and it will do it everytime, just let your foot off the pedal when you hit 30 an watch the rpm needle.

The torque converter doesn't stay locked up when you let go of the gas, this allows you to coast. Since you are coasting the engine is idling. When you let off the gas, the TC unlocks and your engine returns you idle, that is why it is dropping to 900 RPM.

I just got my New Max, so I haven't tried it out. But I'd assume, since this is what my eclipse does, if you are in the "Manual" Mode on your transmission, and did the same thing, the TC would stay locked, and allow you to compression brake.

Of course, I'm kinda making reference to a 5 speed auto, if you have one of the other trannies, there could be a difference.
