SportShift jacked?
SportShift jacked?
Okay so is this how most cars' sportshifts work? It won't allow me to upshift from 3rd to 4th until ~36 mph. Fine. But in Auto drive mode, I can distincly feel the shift to 4th at 30 mph. If I move the stick over to sportshift after it's shifted at 30, I see the gear indicator jump back down to 3, the revs fly, the car lurches, and I'm back in 3rd
... it's getting really annoying. Is this normal? Anyone else having issues with it?

I noted this as well
The Auto mode goes there. The Stick mode will not. Seems screwy to me.
Also, (when in Automatic) do you guys feel like the car lunges a bit between 1st and 2nd and 2nd/3rd. Not bad, but gives for a jerky ride by some standards.
Feels more like a Stick than an automatic.

As for the shifting issue, I haven't had a problem with this, but then again, I am not sure that I would be in 4th gear at 36 mph. I will test it out tomorrow if I remember

Automatic "SportShift" systems have all sorts of little peculiarities. Lags in shifting, strange shift lockouts when you CAN do it in auto mode, excessive idiot proofing, etc. I can probably list about a dozen such things on the Acura SportShift autos. BMW seems to get it fairly good, though.
If you want to have some fun in some twisties, or hold a gear around a corner then SS is pretty useful, but trying to manually shift each and every gear is just sorta pointless. That's what the 6spd is for.

Also, is there a way to make the gears hold to the rev limiter when using the SportShift? Seems kinda stupid to have the sport shift if it doesn't hold the gear when you want it to

I don't know of any that won't shift for you if you hit the rev limit, even the BMW does. I will say that the BMW has a nice shifter, and I like the fact that you pull back to climb gears and push to descend (2001 or 2002 and newer).
I did notice the same restrictions trying to put the car into 4th below 35, it didn't work. I also noticed that below 35 if I put it into manumatic mode it would be in 4th, and stay there.
not all that big of a deal, if you want to be in 4th at 35, use auto mode. If you want to control all the shifting, then you should have bought the 6speed.

Believe it or not. I believe that the Protege5 will not shift unless you tell it to. It will just bounce off the rev limiter. I test drove one and they are a blast to drive even though they're an econobox.

I drove the new 350Z auto right before the Maxima and it held the rev limiter in every gear. If you actually ran the gears out all the way, it felt like it ran faster than just normal automatic. I guess that's a "SportShift" for ya, go figure

It lets you down shift when you want, if it is with in it's logic, and up shift when you want, again if it falls with in it's logic, but it doesn't really give you anything else.
If you put it into manumatic mode and floor it, you should get the same results as flooring it in auto mode

it is like your radio, it doesn't make your car go faster but it does make it more enjoyable...
that sucks :-( My sister's TL will let you select any gear as long as it doesn't overshoot redline. It will hold gears all the way to the rev limit unless the speed goes below 5 mph, thats when it'll downshift itself to 2nd gear.
