Problems with my Maxima 04

Just bought mine on 08/07. It was late and dark and did not pay attention to two things...1. The Screen for the Nav System had scratches/dust inside and 2. The dasboard had a chip. The interior of my car is black but had something that looked like a paint chip, I could actually see the "base" of the dashboard (light grey) although it was supposed to be black. Next day I took it to the dealer and they say they will fix both problems. So I was curious about the chip on the dashboard and how they would fix it. They said they would call "The Vynil Doctor"...that they would fix it and it will be like brand new. I trusted them and said OK. Next day I went to pick up my car and saw that they "cleaned up" the screen....with a dirtier cloth and I could see lint/dust everywhere on the screen....not only that, they plastic screen was scratched from the cloth they used to clean it.....so I was getting furious...then I saw that one of the portions of the pewter colored pieces that make up the console that they had to remove to clean the screen WAS SCRATCHED TOO!!!....they used a screw driver to get it out!
Then, I had to see the repair on the dashboard.....turns out "The Vynil Doctor" spray painted the small chip....with a black shinny color....so I ended up with a shinny spot on the top of the dashboard....then they idiot SVC Manager told me to wait a couple of days until the shine goes away.....
Needless to say...I was so upset I called Nissan Consumer Affairs and logged the concern...now the dealer has my car and said they are going to fix it....I am not sure what to do about the paint chip...I know they are going to replace all the other plastic parts that they scratched...but I do not know what they will do about the dash....I have some questions that I would like you to answer if you have had any kind of experience on this:
1.- Have you heard of vynil fix....and the paint of it...does it last??
2.- What are you doing to avoid dust from getting into the screen of the Nav system.
3.- What are your thoughts if the dealer wants to change the whole dashboard?
4.- Should I push for a new car? mine has only 265 miles....
Looking for some advise....
X.

I would push for a new dash and screen, you will have a tough time getting a new car. Find a better dealer for service too...

good luck

I had a lot of trouble with mine when i picked it up from the dealership. I had a scratch on the back driverside door, we found glass in the car, the seats were all dirty, there is white out or something on the dash, there is a black thing on the roof and the car is blue, there is something on the windsheild that wont come off, and the weathering on the two front doors wont stay on, plus other minor stuff. Had the car a month and dealership still hasnt fixed anything, we have it all written down and documented when we took delivery, they better fix it all.

UPDATE: I went to the dealer yesterday. Thye had fix the dashboard. I think they used the Vynil Doctor Service again....and this time they did a good job, although I believe they just painted or stained the whole dash in order for the first stain to disappear. I was happy.....They had fixed all the problems and replaced all the pewter colored parts....
As I was reviewing the rest, foud that when they replaced the plastic screen for the LCD they did not realize there were white dots in the inside...so today they have to take that out again.....and the saga continues.....this cars did not have quality problems when they were manufacture in Japan.....!!

I have never heard of 5th gen having problems with nav screens being dusty/dirty, or chipped dashes?

I couldn't tell you what the 5th gens had or didn't have, I really have no interest in them. I was referring to quality issues in general. There are more than a few posts about them on the 6th gen forum, I am sure there are plenty on the 5th gen forum as well, but I couldn't say for sure because I don't have any need to frequent there.

I didnt say the 5th gen had NO quality issues, what I did say was that I have never heard of 5th gens having issues with two stated issues being discussed: dusty nav screens, and chipped dashes. Touchy, aren"t we Gmc? You stated the 5th gen had the SAME quality issues.....can you show some proof re: these two problems with 5th gens? It so sad, you trying to turn the tables back on me.....calling me the all knowing one whatever I say must be right? Nice fantasy land your in bud.

Excuse me for miss speaking. Some of the same quality issues that have been present in other generations, are found in the 6th gen, i.e. the rattle in the rear deck, etc, referencing the comment about the build quality being better in Japan.

I will be sure to put a disclaimer on there-

Ok, you said 5th gen "have some of the SAME ISSUES" hell buddy if anyone here holds people to their very last word it is YOU! SAME ISSUES means duh, the same things that were being discussed........miss speaking seems to be a speciality of yours especially when it is convienant for you to appear correct.

What ever man, you need a life. This is just sad, your need to rebut every post I make is bordering on ridiculous. I admit when I am wrong, unlike some people in here.

And to wrap up this discussion let me add that every generation (new design/body style) will have their problems. This is especially true in their first year. With that said, I have to say I would have rather had the cosmetic issues to deal with when I bought my 2000 SE than the more commonly known 5th gen issues. Bad, warped rotors, ignition coils, excessive windnoise just to name a few ...

The one issue I had wasn't too bad, gas gauge that stuck on my 04. I think I would take that over what you listed as well.

FYI....if your last six digit of the VIN is in the 825000 range, you have a hail damaged Maxima.
