Attn: 2004 Maxima 6 speed owners, I have a question.
Are your Maxima's giving you any transmission problems on 6 speed. I am assuming that 350Z & Maxima uses same 6 speed tranny. I know that 350Z's are having lots of trannsmission issue.
For example, I just got a my transmission replace after having the car for 2 months. I was having problems with my 2nd. Lots of people are having problems with their 3rd too.
Your input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I find this manual transmission to be one of the smoothest and easy-shifting manual transmission I've owned (65 Vette 4-speed, 86 Celica 5-speed, and 99 Dodge Ram 5-speed). (Went through years when my wife insisted on automatics for "the family car." With retirement, I now do most of the driving and she "allowed" me to get a 6-speed on the Maxima.)
SteVTEC is correct about this (a front-wheel dirve transmission) not being the same transmission as used in rear-wheel drive Nissans, although the gear ratios may be the same or very close. Suspect it is closer to the front-wheel drive 5-speed tranny in the Altima.
im having a problem with my transmission. when im driving and im trying to change gears, some times the clutch goes to the floor and wont come back up. usually i have to pull over on the side of the highway and wait like 10 mins before it get back to its normal state. has anyone else had this problem?
See this thread, hopfully it will help you in your questions.http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=494255
my trans hates going into 2nd when its cold, takes a good 15 miles for it to stop crunching shifting to 2nd
once in a while after sedate driving my clutch pedal will loose all pressure, it will come back up, but slower/spongier; if i turn it off and let it sit for a min or two it will be fine again

Shifting to 3rd isn't really smooth either but not as bad as 2nd. Once I drive it for a bit it goes away. I'll try changing the trans fluid when it gets warmer see if that helps.
+1 but anymore I usually just start out in 2nd. Changing the fluid didn't help mine in cold weather. Every Maxima I've owned was a PIA in cold weather. Cold weather for Dallas is temps in the 25 - 40 degree range. I can't imagine having to deal with real cold in this car or the AE it replaced.
its so funny, i have been having the same problems as the other 6th genners are. i am in plano, tx. i want to change out the fluid to redline MT-90. there is a lot of success with shifting being much better. i am just trying to find a good price/qt.
