Crank Sensor Problems
Crank Sensor Problems
Anyone having problems with the crank sensor on the 2004 (6 speed)? Since purchasing in late June, the crank sensor has failed and been replaced 3 times - at 600km, 1700km and 1900km. There is no warning other than the tach starts to flutter and the car immediately conks out or starts to buck like a bronco- very dangerous as it happens at any speed - in an intersection making a left turn, at about 40km/h, and at high speed. Service manager at my dealership said it scared the &$#@ out of him when it failed in the fast lane with a big rig coming up behind him. It has been with the dealer for past 8 weeks but they say they cannot guarantee it will not happen again as no particular cause can be found. Nissan says there isn't a problem and tells me to get in it and drive. I'm reluctant to do so - I have three small kids and don't really want to play Russian roulette with them in the car.
Any advice?

Sounds like a lemon. I'd talk to a lawyer who takes on lemon law cases, and see what he thinks. If the car has been down for 30 days, or has been back for the same problem 3 times and still not been fixed, it is qualified as a lemon. Or at least here it is.

Hey,
Call Nissan Canada and explain the issue. If that doesn't work threaten Nissan Canada with CAMVAP and request a new car from the dealer.
CAMVAP is arbitrated by a third party and is based on two main precepts that either A) The car was defective from the start B) Interpretation of warranty.
CAMVAP can award different things. One is to have them repair the car (not likely applicable in your case because they can't seem to). Another is to have them purchase back the vehicle or replace it.
CAMVAP doesn't get you back punitive reimbursement, but your case would be likely very well received due to the danger presented by the issue.
CAMVAP is FREE, and does not require a lawyer. It is not a "lemon law" per se but it is obvioiusly very easy for you to prove that the car is defective from the factory.
