Manual shift mode on SE
Manual shift mode on SE
Does anyone know how exactly this works, and if it has any real functions of a manual? I test drove a 04 max and i did not feel the tiptronic works as has been described. Does the computer close the throttle and shift gears by itself and how quick does it do it? Is there any sort of limiter of rpm in each gear?
In the manual shift mode, the transmission may shift up automatically to a higher range than selected if the engine speed is too high. When the vehicle speed decreases, the transmission automatically shifts down and shifts to 1st gear before the vehicle comes to a stop.
In the manual shift mode, the transmission may not shift to the selected gear. This helps maintain driving performance and reduces the chance of vehicle damage or loss of control.
The transmission will automatically shift the gears between the 1st and the selected range. For example, if you select the 3rd range, the transmission will shift up or down between the 1st and 3rd gears.
Moving the selector lever rapidly to the same side twice will shift the ranges in succession.

If you hit the top of the rev limit, it goes to the next gear automatically. The only real uses I have for this is a) to manually slow myself down with out hitting the brakes, b) to hold a gear, like when I am getting on the highway on a circular onramp and I want to stay in that gear so I can launch.
That is really it, if you want a manual, get a manual. If you want an automatic with some benefits of a manual, get the SE auto.

Yea, there is no difference in shift rpm's between D and tiptronic in mine. Only use for it is for when you want to be in a certain gear, but even then it doesn't like to go into certain gears when you want it to go into that gear.
Maybe an ECU flash will help it hold closer to redline since it changes the redline to 7100rpm. Maybe it will even make it stay in each gear if you want it to
