Replacing the ‘04 stock fog bulbs

Wondering if anyone has attempted to replace the ugly ’04 fog bulbs with closer color match to the HIDs? I’d like to replace mine with a pair of PIAA H3 Super Plasmas @ 5000K which should look much better than the stock fogs next to the HIDs.

Doesn’t look like its gonna be an easy swap!! Can’t get at the darn bulb socket from behind!!
Looks like the entire headlamp housing must be removed to replace them. Seems like an unfortunate design that requires pulling the housing to replace a fog bulb.

I’m sorta nervous bout mess’in with the housing. Wish I could get my hands on an the ’04 Max Factory Service Manual .

Has anyone replaced their fogs yet?
Thanks for your help.

I am very interested in this topic!

I would like to replace my fog bulbs too. I do not turn on the fog lights for this reason unless it is foggy of course. I never turned on my fogs in the 2001 330i I use to drive. I see cars with HIDs and fog turned on simultaneously and wonder if the driver knows how stupid it looks to have the Fogs and HIDs on that do not match at all?

It's not stupid at all. Fog lights are supposed to be yellowish in color. People swap out bulbs on their foglight enclosures for cosmetic reasons and/or if they live in an area where more light is needed but hardly get any fog.

It does look stupid when there is no fog or the driver has both the fogs and HIDs on at 12 Noon on a cloudless day. 99% of the time fogs do not need to be illuminated for driving. You mean to tell me you do not turn on your fog lights for sport (most of the time)?

The driver is trying to look sporty but it does not look sporty. Mismatched light bulb colors looks stupid!

Go away...why did you pop in here? To highjack the thread?

I was just stating my reason for replacing the fog bulbs.

I'd go with the yellow 3M style film over the existing assemblies personally...that's looks and protection for you there.

Just be aware that a common problem on 2k2-2k3 w/ upgrading bulbs has caused our fogs to crack (due to the increase in heat)

You have to learn to chill. I posted with an opinion on why it's not stupid and in no way is meant to sway you into believing otherwise. I posted my opinions in the same way you posted yours. You don't see me calling you a troll.

There's nothing in the rules that say i can't visit other areas of the .Org.

Anyway, going back to the topic. I do agree that running HID's and foglights at high noon is rather unnecessary, but i won't go as far as calling people who have "mismatched lights" stupid.

And as i said, people who replace their foglights with white bulbs do it for either of two reasons a) Cosmetic, b) Increased visibility when there is no fog.

I don't see where you got all uptight about my comment. Sheesh.

Would that work for the 2k4? Looks like it might be a bit tricky with their integrated fogs.
