Nav System Issues ('04 maxima)

Hey all... Over the past couple weeks, I have run into some issues with the nav system. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this happen and/or can shed some light.

1 - (Happened once) I programmed a destination in and started driving. I made it about half-way there and the nav system stopped redrawing the map as the car moved... The map stayed still and the red triangle (representing the car's current location) moved along the road as I drove on it and disappeared as I passed the edge of the map. Whenever I pressed the route or map buttons, an error would appear on the screen. It said something like "incorrect rom version". I had to restart the car to get the nav system to work again.

2 - (Happened twice) I programmed a destination in and started driving. I made it to within .25 miles of my destination when the entire nav system locked. The map and the red triangle did not move. The system would beep and do nothing when I pressed any buttons. I had to restart the car to get the system working again.

In both cases, I did not notice any issues with the radio or hvac... The bottom portion of the screen would respond appropriately when i changed stations or hvac settings.

maybe it depends on the area you live in.. if you live in some unknown part of the country, maybe the DVD freaks out on you cause it cant figure out where BFE is located on the map....

Or you live or going into a area that is so new... its not on the dvd yet

/shrug - It's a computer... Computers can crash

Restarting the car = rebooting the computer :P

Neither of those have ever happened to me, so I'm not too sure what would be casuing that - Dirty/Dusty dvd maybe?

Possible causes:
1. Map DVD-ROM is soiled or partially damaged.
2. There is no road that can be found by the system close to the destination.
3. The starting point to the destination is too close.
4. Suggested routes may be displayed discontinuously near waypoints as route calculation is done at each waypoint.
5. The present location is about 1,100 miles (1,770 km) away from the destination.
6. The vehicle is moving.
7. The number of waypoints exceeds 5.

I would say that the DVD-Rom or DVD CD is damaged. Take the car in to the dealer and have them replace both.

alot of the nav system programming functions are disabled when the car is moving. the things i konw you can do while driving are:

select one of your top 5 address book locations
select one of your last 5 destinations

(basically, you are not allowed to type street names in, you are not allowed to scroll up or down in you addy book or recent destinations list.)

while travelling to a destination, you can select a quick stop by type... limited to the first 5, because you cant scroll... (i havent played with the quick stop stuff too much.)

Silly question for you guys, does the nav system have some sort of "screensaver" function that could cause the screen to go blank after a while?

No screen saver, but there is a mode that gives a totally blank black screen, no map, a/c-audio controls at all. With the new roads being added here in Memphis, my system just show me driving thru the middle of the block, or lake, or field, but position indicator follows correctly and maintains proper heading according to the compass indicator...
