The Turning Radius

I have yet to get my Maxima but I am hearing stuff about the turning radius. What exactly is that and why is it a problem in the 2004 Maxima. (This is going to be my first car)

Not sure of the technical definition of a turning radius is but I will hopefully try to describe it here. The turning radius of a car is how well and sharply the car turns. I feel the only times that you will notice a cars turning radius is when you are 1) trying to park in a parking lot and 2) trying to make a U-turn. I guess you could visualize it as this. Imagine you are in an open area and you turn your steering wheel in entirely one direction and keep doing circles with your car. The size of the circle would determine your turning radius. The larger the circle, the poorer the turning radius. But in no way should a poor turning radius deter you from buying a car. It is just something that differs from car to car and takes some time to become accustomed to.

It means that the 04 will not turn on a dime....if you turn the wheel and drive around in the tightest circle possible - the circle is going to be far from small. My experience is that it is only problematic when maneuvering in tight spaces e.g., - parking spaces. bottom line is you'll get use to it.

Yeah, going from a toyota corolla to an 03 Max was a big change, but its worth it. It's no big deal really, just a little different than what you are used to depending on what type of car you have.

fun to make fun of. The new Max does have 18" rims which are big but my wifes auto is a ford expedition (very large truck) and it turns better then the 2K4 max.

Again no big deal but it does surprise me.

Hell, the BMW 745 has a smaller turning radius than the Maxima (well, slightly smaller)...
