Went in for Warranty work..

I dropped my car off today for some things. This is the first time I have ever owned a new car so going in for work is new to me. Anyways I told the guy about the brakes squeaking and he told me it was normal.. Told him about the shimmy and he said that usually has to do with the wheels needing to be balanced which you have to pay for along with an oil change which I thought didnt cost anything because it was warranty work... I guess not. They did find out I had a blown strut which I figured and had them check out. ordering a new one and having it put on soon. I really dont like going to those guys.

There is an "adjustment" period (20,00km in Canada) where work such as balancing wheels is covered by the stealership. Check the warranty section in the manual.

Basically paying for wheel balancing before the first year is up, is total BS.

I would contact another dealer about the shimmy, and Nissan directly.

As for the oil change, you didn't really think you were going to get that for free did you? Do you bring it by to have them fill it with free gas every week too?

Actually I did think they would do it for free. the dealership that I bought the car at told me they would give me free oil changes as long as I owned it. Sorry if I lack the knoledge of warranty work. Im 19 years old and this is the first new car I have owned so I have no clue as to what the dealer will do for me and what they wont do.

Do you have that oil change agreement on paper? As far as the brakes. .*sigh*. . I'd tell em' that it does not state in any piece of 04' Maxima literature that squeaking brakes are "standard equipment" If they can't offer any resolve(for the squeaking and shimmy as well), take gmc's advice & contact Corp. Nissan. . you shouldn't have to accept that BS. How many miles on the car BTW ?

I don't think "free" scheduled maintenance is as rare as you might think...yes I know other manufacturers have been offering this for awhile (e.g., Audi - VW). And, it was offered to me when I was shopping for a new Nissan...along w/ pickup and delivery service. Oh, yeah, they will only fill my tank once a month

The shimmy should be gone when the strut is replaced - if you have over 15k or so you should check about geting the struts replaced in pairs. When you just put one new stut on it can affect the handling/safety. But your mileage should be low enough that this isnt a problem. Oil changes are not covered under warrenty, any oil change deal would be though the dealer.

Blown strut! How the heck do you have a blown strut with a brand new, '04 vehicle? I own two 3rd Gens and have been looking at possibly getting an '04 (which is why I am browsing this forum).

As much as I love Maximas, I have having a hard time with new, '04 Maximas that are not starting, have squeaking breaks, and blown struts. I will only assume that these are isolated incidents.

It must be that Renault ownership thingy.
