sell your 04
It's not like it's, "oh no, it's the end of the world!" But it is annoying to have misc rattles in your new car, that even though you have brought the car in a handfull of times, still cannot be located and fixed. Yet, even the technician agrees, they are there.
yeah but this whole fourm is bashing the 2004 max, ive had tons of new cars, and all have lil rattles, more times in the cold then any, i just am getting sick of coming here and reading all this negitive stuff...i love my max, sure it has the odd rattle, but for the price sure cant beat it
Yeah, the fit and finish could be a lot worse. But hey, people are going to complain untill they are blue in the face.
My 3g Eclipse has had more problems then I could even list on here. My Maxima is no comparison in build quality, but there is still some left to be desired. Most people just think since it's a flagship "luxury" car, that it should be the quality of a 7 series BMW or S class Benz.

A lot of it has to do with expectations too.
If you buy a car expecting perfection then you are only going to be disappointed and upset because there is no such thing as a perfect car. If you expect less and know what the issues are beforehand and are prepped for them, then you're not likely to care nearly as much. If I go buy an 04 tomorrow, I'll know that I may have some interior issues, some issue with heat leaking in with the moonroof or something, and this "shimmy" issue.
Gotta love forums. Knowledge is power.

I have a '91 Honda Civic with 220K miles (still on original clutch) with less interior noises than my '04 Maxima Elite. I didn't expect perfection going into this but I also didn't expect to have a headliner that has pops/creaks coming from 5 different areas. I didn't expect to have the seatbelt adjusters buzz when at frwy cruising speed. I didn't expect the loud 1 sec noise from the engine compartment while cold starting the car.
The point is that many people are experiencing too many issues. I have three other friends with "new" vehicles (most are closer to 10K miles). Toyota Tundra, BMW X5, Acura TL...there is maybe 2 issue between the three.
What is disturbing is that, other than the engine noise that can't be replicated, the problems are identifiable (headliner creaks), yet convincing dealer service of the problem is a full time job...Iv'e had my car into service 5 times in 1200 miles. Tried to replicate engine noise, fixed one headliner creak, replaced center console lid and also peformed TSB on rear deck..it makes more noise than before. I still have minor headliner creaks I'd love to get rid of but service is now denying they hear them..."I'm too sensitive"
This could lead to anothe point regarding quality of service...from what I'm experiencing at Nissan they're not even close to Acura of Infinity.
SteVTEC, you're right..gotta love Forums. People need to contribute their experiences and if they're overwhelmingly negative so be it ... but please contribute.
And the 2001 Accord V6 I bought new had more creaks and rattles after only 10k miles than the 1990 Toyota Camry it replaced at 207,000 miles which was still nearly flawless except for an odd little dash rattle only at 2200 rpm in 4th gear. So I know exactly how you feel.
The worst part was, I was too damned busy to ever get it to the dealership so I just put up with it or fixed it myself as best I could. I paid big bucks for a new car expecting perfection and didn't come even remotely close to getting it.

I don't know how you guys go about purchasing your cars, but I have had ONLY one problem that has been listed on this forum. That was a busted strut! The dealer set up an appointment the very day that I called and it was fixed withing 4 hours.
I don't have engine noises, shimmy in the wheeel, Creaks in the headliner, or the rear deck rattling. I guess I was luucky, but then again I checked the car out thoroughly before I signed anything.
Maybe some of you need to take your time when taking delivery and this kind of stuff would be caught before you leave the lot. I think most of you were probably rushed by the salesperson to purchase the vehicle before actually checking out what you were buying into. That, or you were in such a hurry to buy the car that you didn't think to check it out well.
I know the car should come in with no problems, but let's be real here. What car has ever just had no problems str8 off the lot?

I can understand both sides of this issue. On one hand, I think that if someone is having problems with their Max, they should mention it here. However, some are taking it overboard (especially members who are not even 6th gen owners) and are using every opportunity to bash the new Max.
I've been lucky...no squeaks, rattles, or shimmy!

naah, keep complaining and whining
, so I can pick up a sweet used 6th gen for an unjustified low resale value 2 years from now
.However, a 6th gen pulled up behind me at a traffic light yesterday, and I was a little disappointed to see the passenger side headlight burnt out (or what ever causes HID lights to conk out).
