Dirty Nav Screen repeat!

I have had my Nav screen replaced once, cleaned twice and STILL it gets a film inside of it. ANYONE Else getting this as a repeat problem. There has got to be an issue hidden here somewhere.

Instructions for removing Nav Screen

Somewhere a few months ago, I saw some shots from the manual on how to get to the NAV screen. It involved the console and worked its way up.
Anyone know where it is and can repost it?

Do you use any kind of armor-all on the dash or conditioner on the leather? I often noticed on my previous car that whenever I used armor all on the interior, my windows would develop a film from it.

I just had mine cleaned for the second time as well. It is not as noticeable in the dark, but on a sunny day, between the dirt and the reflection, you can hardly see the screen.

Of course, this was a minor problem considering I was also picking up the car after having had its transmission replaced at 6900 miles.

I guess it will just be something that will require continual maintenance.

Nope. I do, suspect plastic resins as being the source of the film.

Continual mtc after warranty will be a real problem.

Yup. Mine was replaced and I was really happy with how pristine it looked. Of course that was several months ago and the film is back. I agree, there must be some issue here. I don't use any kind of interior cleaners that would cause this film build up. Very weird.

Is the "film" everyone is referring to an oily build-up on the exterior or something else?

Today for the first time I've noticed a milky white dot (about the size of a pencil eraser) in the upper right corner of the screen. There are a few smaller pencil tip size spots near it. You can only see it in direct sun light. They seem to be located on the inside of the screen or in the actual screen material itself. I haven't used any cleaners or protectants on the screen. I clean it with a lightly water moistened soft towel. Never cleaners.

Does this sound familiar???

I have seen the inside of the dash this week w=hle someone was doing a navigation conversion on my car so that i can flip a switch and play dvd on the navi screen. I got in my car after the work was done and noticed finger prints on the inside of the glass. So i had the poor SOB take it apart infrom of me and clean it real good. Its easy enough to take down you dash but there are a few screws at teh base of the radio controls that need to be removed from there its a matter of snapping out the dash pieces. The thing is that the lcd screen on the inside has shiny glass over and the cover has its own platic or glass. there is a gap with a seal between the two and they are both attached to the ac vents and raidio control buttons. I think it could be some sort of film buildup from the ac like on the inside of you widows by the defroster vents. I also think they should come up with some type of rubber gasket to put between the two so that its air tight in there.

You know I praise my MAX up and down, but this is one of my pet peeves as well when it comes to my new car. The damn inside of the LCD glass has little lint particles that you can see in the sunlight. When nighttime rolls around, it's not noticeable, but still... Haven't taken it to the dealer yet for cleaning because I'm the type that doesn't like my $h*t taken apart because $h*t doesn't always get put back together correctly, no what I mean? Anyway, I know the day will come when it just irritates me so much that I'll have to take it in to be cleaned. This is covered in a TSB, correct? So no money out of our pockets, right?

I'm right there with you hofb99. I often do work myself just because I know how it has been done.

I used to test dealers out by taking in my '98 for a minor service. You could tell the poor mechanics because they would rotate the tires and not change the tire pressures. I'd end up with 29psi on the front and 32 psi on the back. Then the fun would begin when I go back in and have a talk with the service manager. If he makes excuses you know to stay away from that dealer in the future.

Brasso Nissan is about the best in my area and they aren't perfect.

Do you have a service manual? I'd like to find a pdf copy somewhere.

I didn't use a dealer number. Maybe that's the problem?

I have the same problem, had the screen replaced twice and there are still markings on the inside. Also tiny scratch marks along bottom. Only noticeable in bright sunlight. I'll be contacting Nissan and will see in Reg. rep. will look at problem. I plan on having Nissan correct again until it is fixed.

I went thru the dealership so far. If scratches are on outside they may not cover under warranty. Take a good look at screen in sunlight to see if back is scratched, if so, dealer should replace.

I have about 4 dime size spots on the inside - they look like small fog patches -they have been there almost since I got the car - I have been putting off taking it in.

I too have had my screen replaced 3 times, and again only after 2 weeks I have the same moisture spots appearing… Nissan has to come up with a “fix it” the problem will not be solved by replacing the screen without making changes... Screens must be airtight or they need to be able to have air circulate... Moisture is being trapped on the inside…
