Help! Ding :(

Well, I went out to the car today and noticed this:

I'm not sure how it got there (although I have my suspicions...), and it feels pretty deep (I can feel the concavity of the pit so I'd imagine it was hit pretty hard). It's on the part of the car that is sloping upwards, so I don't think it was a shopping cart or anything like that (I didn't run into anything either). Could it have been a flying rock?

Anyway, what should I do? Since there is exposed metal, is this in danger of becoming a rust problem? Should I apply some touch up paint or use the dealer's repair center </shudder>?

Here is a close up:

Thanks

Do your best job to touch it up with touch-up paint before it start to rust. I have heard of a product called Lanka (sp) that may smooth it out after your attempt. Good luck.

You can find one of those detail shops that does paintless dent removal and touch ups, and they can do a good job touching that up for probably 100 bucks.

One thing you can try is buying a bottle of touch up paint. Take the back end of a paper match and apply the paint into the ding in very thin coats. Allow it to dry between each coat. As you add each coat the paint will build up. When it looks like it is filled pretty well, bufff the spot w/ some buffing compound. This should smooth it out. Good luck...

Thanks for all of your suggestions guys. I'm going to be pretty busy the next couple of days but I'll try to get this sorted out. Dents suck

Puch, that must have hurt. I hate dents. Did a cart hit it? Get the ding remover and touch it up.

Yeah, dings suck.

I took it to the dealer's repair shop just to see what they would say. He said it would cost $40-$60 to repaint that panel or I could get a tube of touch up paint for $5.. he recommended for touch up paint. He also said that panel is still plastic so no danger of rusting.. hmm...

Anyway, which would you get? The 1/2 Oz bottle or the paint pen with clear coat?
