04 SE 6spd with Journey package

is it possible? I don't want the split seating in the back. I need the space...Has anyone got the Elite package and converted the rear seats back to a bench?

In theory, it shouldn't be that hard. Just need to get the rear bench seats and remove the rear center console...but who knows. Maybe it would be easier to get all of the options up to the journey package and just add navigation after the fact. Has anyone converted their information system to the factory nav system?

When I went to purchase my max, they had an all black 6-speed max with all the options (nav, heated leater seats/steering wheel) minus the bucket seats in the rear. I've seen a few of these in the central jersey region when I was shopping around.

Uhhhh ... did someone tell you this can't be done? Unless I'm wrong, a 6MT SE w/Journey definitely can be done. In fact, I think there's at least one of them on this forum (?)

As far as finding one on a dealer's lot, they'll be few and far between, since most dealers will figure Journey buyers will lean towards automatic transmissions.

This is precisely what I wanted when I bought, and was told at that time (May 03) that it couldn't be done. I was factory-ordering my car too, so dealer inventory wasn't an issue. Perhaps they've changed the policy since then, but even the website wouldn't let you configure one that way at the time.

FWIW-YMMV.

Well, I may have to stand corrected, but I thought it could be done. Another poster up the thread says he actually saw one, so ...

Well Mike, for kicks I just went to the Nissan site and tried to design an 04 6MT with Journey package - no go. It requires the 5AT, which in my opinion sucks royally. I really wanted NAV, but not enough to give up my clutch. ;-)

If there was a way to retrofit the NAV system, I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. I did the retrofit for SAT, and it would be nice to add the NAV to truly make my Max perfect. The lack of NAV is its only current flaw IMHO.

As I promised, I now officially stand corrected. ;-)

I really thought it could be had, but I'm now convinced I was wrong.

Yeah, I went through the website and tried to build it. But, like someone said, it is a no go.

I asked my local dealer and he told me it wasn't possible. If a 6spd with the journey has been spotted in central jersey...I'm gonna take a look.

Andy, could you give me the name of the dealer you saw it at?

I wouldn't give you a hard time for NAV but I hate the orange display!

BlueMaxx, I hated it at first too, although it's grown on me a bit since then. I'd still rather have the color screen that the NAV uses, but I can live with the orange.

Okay - I have one other annoyance - the way the climate control automatically turns on the AC compressor, especially now in the wintertime. I know it's to dehumidify the air, and I know I can just hit the button and turn it off (which I do), but it still bugs the heck outta me.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. When I purchased my car, I traded in a 97 5-speed, so at Peruzzi Nissan located in Langhorne,Pa (across the river from Trenton) they kept showing me 6-speeds. It had a sticker a bit over 35 grand, which was black on black 6-speed with navigation, heated seats/wheel, folding mirrors and a bench seat in the rear. ( i believe that is the journey package). Would of purchased it, but I wanted the bucket seats in the rear (that sh*t's pimp) but they didn't have any. It was odd cause when I did my car searching at other locations, the journey packages all had bucket seats. I just went to there site and looked at the inventory and none had journey package, but I know they have/had that particular car.

Hey, bradshaw - is it just the principle of the thing, or do you feel the A/C adversely affects the operation of the system? They do that on purpose, you know, as do virtually all mfr's who offer automatic climate control systems.

I realize you're in MD, where it's colder than it is here in sunny Texas, but having the compressor on shouldn't interfere with your car's ability to warm up the interior. Keep in mind the A/C part of the system extracts heat from the air to provide cooling in the summer, and there ain't much heat to extract when it's 0 degrees ... so the compressor isn't really cooling off the air coming from your heater outlets.

It is providing a service by dehumidifying the air and thereby helping keep your windows from fogging up and moisture from condensing on cold surfaces.

I'd say just don't worry, be happy, and let it do its thing.

You're probably right Mike - it's probably just my weird reasoning that the AC shouldn't be on in the dead of winter. :-) Besides that, I probably don't want it running due to the increase in gas mileage when the compressor is running. Maybe I'll go ahead and let it do its thing without getting so **** about it.

Can't you just feel the Love. People from Texas to Baltimore agreeing on how to run a heater!

I felt a little funny about it to at first and was always turning it off. I just gave up and watched my milage and didn't see a significant change in mpg. Of course at 5 above there isn't much moisture in the air anyway so the compressor probably didn't need to kick on as much as it would at 85!

Andy-

Not to doubt you, but are you *sure* that car had NAV? Did you actually get behind the wheel and crank it up and see the color NAV screen as opposed to the lovely orange? If you only took the salesman's word for it, he might have been yanking you - that car most likely was an SE non-NAV 6MT. Just curious - if there is actually a 6MT Journey package out there, my dealer has some serious 'splainin' to do....
