Bought 04 SE following 10 years in Firebird Formula

Well, I just traded in my 93 Firebird Formula (Black) and picked up a 2004 Maxima SE (Silver). What a great car. I feel like I'm driving a spaceship with all the electronics in there. I don't think I'll be going back to a Pontiac again !

Congrats, I went from a 2002 Firebird Formula to a 04 SL MAX. Though I miss the raw power of the 'bird, the Max has good power and WAY higher quality ride and interior, enough to make me forget about the Firebird

I normally don't succumb to the temptation to street race from a light… but one day a Trans Am pulled up next to me at a light on a nice open stretch of road… revving his loud engine and looking over at me as if to race. I really did not know what my 04 SL could do in this circumstance and thought let’s give it a try. So when the light turned green, I floored it! My 4 speed automatic spun the tires for about 1.5 seconds as I was hanging onto the steering wheel to keep her straight. The Trans Am (an early 2000 model I think) was spinning his tires too, but I immediately got about a two car lead which I never relinquished. He could never catch me! He backed off when we got over 105 mph. I was very happy that my SL could out-run a Trans Am. Now that I know I can do it… I won’t do this again. I promise.

The new maximas are quick, but not that quick.

Unless it was a V6 firebird you were racing, i really doubt it was a 98+ Trans Am.

After Driving both my 1998 WS6 Trans AM, and my dad's 2004 SE max, its no contest for speed.

Ryan.

I'm not making this up Ryan. You can doubt it all you want. I don't think a V6 would sound like this car. And yes it was a 2000+ Firebird!

Maybe the guy cant drive. Never rule out what can happen on the street.

I saw a 98+ WS6 turn a 15.5!! he layed about 400 feet of rubber though.

Another example, i was cruising in my 5.0 mustang (modded) when this modded WS6 pulls up next to me. He had I/H/E, I had a couple more things, but my mustang would only dyno about 220whp. I launched perfect, all my shift points perfect. I dont know what the hell he did but he didnt started gaining on me until 4th. which point we had to stop for the next light. him still 1.5 cars back.

With that said if it was a 98 or newer transam (LS1 power) he would of passed you pretty easy after 100 if he kept on it. They do 12.9-13.3 stock all day at like 107mph. Those cars are no joke.
