For those who ordered your 04 how long
I ordered my car and was told 8-12 weeks to get it. Which is a huge window.
Those of you that ordered your car how long did it really take?
Thanks
Chris

I did order the same - Silver Max SE , DPP and VDC. NO sunroof. I live in Minnesota, and how many days would i get to use Sun roof .
Dealers would have to order before the 6th of every month and those orders will go to production during the next month and would be delivered by the end of that month. So effectively 8 - 9 weeks of wait from the date the dealer place the order.
I ordered mine in Feb and some how have pushed 5 weeks. Another 3 weeks to go.....

3 more weeks....3 loooonnnggg weeks to go...is the wait killing you?
I guess I am just too impatient. I couldn't endure such a wait. Especially with the Nissan-USA site listing the complete inventory of every Nissan dealer in the country.
If no dealer near you has exactly the car you crave, just use the Nissan site to list dealers within however many miles you are willing to go, then pull up the Maximas for each of those dealers. If you find one equipped exactly right, you could see if a nearby dealer would get it from that dealer for you, or just go there and buy it yourself.
Don't even bother with the individual dealers' web sites; most are a total disgrace to the intelligence of an earthworm.

I order my SL because I wanted the SL with the 5Sp tran not one on the east coasat that has the options I wanted....so had to order
I had to order mine as the comibation DPP and VDC always had Sunroof. I did not want to pay extra 900 for sunroof and an additional 150 for wind deflector. there was no way out but to order!!! But i did not realize that 8 weeks would be this llllooooooooooooooooog... hmm...
Just ordered mine this week; 5-speed SL with driver's preferred pkg, power sun roof, traction control; Frost white w/frost leather. Just made the April order cutoff time. Dealer quoted 6-8 weeks, and said they'd been getting them in 5 weeks. I agree, it is going to be a looong 6 weeks!
I wanted the 5-speed auto bad enough to wait, I guess.

I ordered 11/17 and took delivery 2/11. My dealer didn't inform me about the 6th of the month thing up front, but did tell me that it would be "about 60 days, sometimes longer". It got a little hairy towards the end, but it WAS well worth the wait.
We'll see if I have the stomach for it again- I ordered an Armada LE/Tech/DVD/4x4 for my wife on the FOURTH of March (yes, I learned that lesson well).

i ordered my SE 8/03 and didnt get it till 10/03.. i feel like they gave me every excuse possible.. everything from "we're searching everyday for inventory to a hail storm in TN damaged so many maximas so production is slow" ... waited about 4 weeks or so and got really impatient with their BS and did what lightonthehill recommended.. i looked up inventory on nearby dealers, called them up to verify what they had in stock and gave my dealer the VIN #s to see if they can get it.. finally after a week of bugging and constant hassle they got me one of the ones i found.. def try that and see if you have any luck
The dealer called me yesterday and updated that they cannot get me the car by April 18 and infact they dont know when it is going to come. they were guessing it would be beginning of May.
They also said, a customer is ready to buy that car and if i wanted they are ready to refund my deposit. (They had 20 cars sitting in their lot) I think they played some dealer's prank. I got so frustrated with that attitude, i immdly cancelled the order and got the check back.
But wait, i have not given up. I called another dealer and guess what, they could locate the exact same car i wanted. most likely will buy the car coming monday/tuesday at invoice and at 1.9% special APR for 60 months. What more do you want? I am so excited.
For others who ordered, Pls. check out the nissan site and ask your dealer to ship it out for you!!

I special ordered my '04 SE loaded with all pkgs except the XM radio in Black with Orange leather since Urban Nissan of Duncanville, Texas said they could not locate a car so equipped in the eight state region. Was told by the general sales mgr that I must put a "nonrefundable $1,000 deposit" and wait 60 to 90 days for factory order. That was on March 16, 2004. So far, no contact or update from the dealer. Not even the courtesy to give me a status or approximate build date of the car or its actual start production date. It's hard to believe with roughly 7,700 monthly units coming out of the TN. plant that the dealer could not locate a loaded SE in black with orange leather.
I am getting mistreated and did they do wrong to already cash my "nonrefundable" $1,000 deposit check without confirming an order? Any advice besides trying to self-locate the car from other dealer inventory across the country? Can I get my "nonrefundable" deposit back?
I have my loan at the credit union on hold for 90 days but would like to get a VIN and order sheet to lock in the low interest rate.

I agree w/ the others. Search the Nissan site yourself and go get it if you have to.
Now, obviously, you may hav limitations in travel, but I live in Chicago, and if I put in a 100 miles radius (1.5 hours), I come up damn near 50 dealers!!! So if you live anywhere near a metro area, hard to beleive someone wont have the one you want......

For those few who may be interested in checking the inventory of dealers in areas further than 100 miles away, you can enter any zip code in the country into the Nissan dealer inventory screen and it will list all the dealers within however many miles you specify of whatever zip code you put in.
I'm near Atlanta, but routinely check dealer inventories in Birmingham, Chattanooga, Augusta, Greenville/Spartanburg, Montgomery, etc, as those places are easy to reach from Atlanta.
Unless one is looking for a very unusual option combo, there is no reason not to have the Maxima of your dreams within a week or two.

The find a Maxima Challenge
I must want a very unusual color combo and equipment: an automatic SE, opal(black) with burnt orange leather and every option package (elite, drivers, premium, leather, sunroof, DVD navi, split seats, etc.). My Texas dealership said they searched 8 states in the region and found none this past March, 2004. They also suppossedly checked on a National basis and found none with those specs. Is that so rare??? This is not a limited production foreign car.
I feel like either they didn't do a good search of other dealer inventories or lied to me. I can't believe they lied as I was ready to buy on the spot.
Thanks guys but...I really don't think self-searching dealer inventories on the Nissan website will help. The dealer already did this. My dealer has the most motivation to sell me a car, namely profit.
It is difficult to fathom this Maxima is so rare. Dare I challenge someone on this board to find it for me?
Why hasn't my dealer contacted me with an approximate delivery date or to courteously tell me when the car was put into production? They cashed my $1,000 deposit check!
Please help.

I just searched all of the Nissan dealers within 100 miles of Minneapolis and found only one 6spd. manual transmission. Looks like I'll have to order, especially to get only the sunroof, premium audio in Onyx over black cloth.
texomen - the dealers are not lying to you. The hangup is the burnt orange interior. Except for high-end radiant ember Maximas spring and summer a year ago, I don't recall seeing the burnt orange upholstery in many other Maximas. And I have probably seen the interior color of thousands of '04 Maximas, as I peruse the dealer inventories of around forty local dealers at least once each week.
Is it possible Nissan may have dropped the burnt orange interior availability when they dropped the radiant ember exterior? You need to confirm your color is still available before ordering and waiting for months, only to be told 'oops'.
WARNING TO ALL: Someone posted a month or so ago that Nissan would not be taking additional orders for the '04 Maxima after a certain date in April. That time is either imminent or will soon be so. Be advised . . .
