Hey no 5th Gen bashing now. We're all Maxima drivers and love our cars even if they all have some annoying "features".

Nice times. Further evidence that the 2k4's are underated HP wise. Makes me wonder if I ever need a new VQ35 if I could swap in the 04 engine that comes with the 4 speed.

ok i do believe u.. but a slip would be great. what was the temp, humidty 60ft.. how did u launch and what did u set the tire presure at? that is a great time and puts u at #1 for the fastest times of the 04 maxima se auto or stick.. dam now i have to go back to the track and run my 04 again and beat my 14.4 before it gets to warm and i cant do any better than 14.6s because of 90 degree weather... stevetec is gonna be happy with that time lol.. what happend to my #1 spot. i have to become king and dethrone u... i see it is a base model se so its lighter than my elite pachage fully loaded maxima.. now ill make it a point to become king again did u weight the car when u where there in between 27 runs "thats alot of runs lol" my max was 3510 without me in it and over 3600 pnds with me in it...

Good stuff Gooey! Man, this just proves the 5.5th gens are underrated and the 6th gens are overrated. Good thing Nissan rates at 265 hp and actually delivers on that. Every time I see the 6th gen traps, Im just amazed. The 6th gens are probably 3400lbs easy, and they are just ripping down the track en route to 95+ traps!!!!

14.4's in a 6th gen auto Max is filthy. The 5.5th gen auto Max's are doing at best 14.65 stock... I've done 14.76, and weigh 290 lbs, so a 14.70 with a light driver isn't out of the question..BUT 14.40's and a 14.2x PB, ouch! 60 mph comes in about 6 seconds, that is outstanding!

I was talking to a friend of mine who had a turbocharged and intercooled 3.8L 87 Buick Grand National, and he ran stock 14.50's at 95mph, stock tires, no weight reduction. Those cars ran with the Vettes in those years, and were considered brutal quick...Fast forward 17 years, and you have 4 door sedans (5th and 6th gens as an example) that could take a stock GN or T-Type.

Keep dragging Maxima people.

That is an excellent time. All the more reason for us to suspect that these cars are definitely under rated.

Those are awesome times! I'm wondering what kind of gas was in the car. Sometimes people put regular (especially with the recent price increase) in the loaner cars so that's a possibilty.
It's also apparent that there isn't any difference in the performance of the auto vs. the manual.

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayum!!! Very nice times!

Definitely take a pic of or scan the 14.2 timeslip if you can, to silence any doubters. And also pretty please post the info from your run in the timeslip forum in the sticky so we can enter it into the listings. Doesn't matter that it was just a loaner car if you ask me.

The fact that it was a loaner kind of makes it better. Got to see a slip please! If nothing else take it to Kinko's and get it scanned.

Seems like the 6MT could be a 13 second car, assuming the 6MT is quicker than the Auto.

If someone gets into the the 13s with a stock 6MT, I may tradeup just on principle. (Though I'd def get a frontend mask immediately. )

I think you should take that highlander and see how it does on the track... I predict thirteen minutes flat on the 1/4 mile.

nice accord though.. I used to have one. I loved it.

Not that I'm doubting his 14.2XX run, but how come car mag's times are so off when it comes to Maxima 1/4 mile runs. I believe MT has the best run for an AUTO...14.9. Like I said I am not doubting your run, just wondering about the HUGE discrepency in 1/4 mile times between the two.

the way these car mag guys launch is the probelm. they probably just floor the gas pedal and get mad wheel spin. the 04 max u cant just floor it off the line, u have to ease into the throttle for the best times... thats how u will get mid to low 14s stock for an auto

Because mainstream biased advertisting $$$$ accepting magazines are not good places to get un-biased and "reliable" automotive information. Their votes can be bought, as can their track times.

The best mag time for a 2002 Maxima 6spd was a 14.8, and then C&D mag said that their 14.7 TL-S was faster despite being heavier and automatic. That's a friggin good time for a TL-S, but an absolutely ridiculous time for a 2k2 Max, meaning they didn't even try. People here have beat 14.8 while missing 3rd gear.

So take mag times like a grain of salt. I trust people that own the cars and are guaranteed to have "production spec" cars (not pre-production, or "tweaked" press fleet cars) and want to get the most out of their cars first, CarTest software 2nd, anything else 3rd, and magazine times dead last.

[QUOTE=SteVTEC]The best mag time for a 2002 Maxima 6spd was a 14.8

Yeah I remember reading that article(C&D) a while back, before I bought my 2k3. Then I thought to myself, wait a minute, if a 6-speed does it in 14.8(1/4 mile) than an auto must do it 15.2-15.3, looking over the 1/4 mile forums that would be a crappy time for a 2k2-2k3 auto, It seems most people(on the Org) are between 14.7-15.0. I guess your right about the $$$$$ magazines are being paid to print that **** there writing up.
