Radio Remote Control

Anyone ever have a problem with the remote on the steering wheel?

So, I'm driving down the freeway, listening to the radio, and the volume changes... WTF? Maybe I just hit the remote on accident. Then it does it again, my hand is no where near the remote, and the volume bar shows up on the screen. It proceeds to do this the rest of the way home. Nothing major, just maybe one or two dots, and it goes up and down really fast. I never heard of anyone having a problem like this.

Upon futher inspection the rest of the control isn't working properly, the power button is functiong intermediatley, the source or whatever that other button works if you press it really hard. And the channel selector doesn't work. I just wonder if the thing can be repaired, or if I will have to wait forever for them to order a new steering wheel.

I swear, the car has none of the "normal" problems, other then rear deck rattle, but I've had a few strange ones.

I'm not sure about this, but does the 6th gen come equipped with a sound system that adjusts the volume level according to the noise level in the cabin?

My seek button on the steering wheels works SOME of the time but then again it will workj prefectly at times. It's the first thing I've had go wrong with the 2k4 SL. I belive there is a setting that increases the volume the faster you go. I remember having that feature on my Z71 and I think I've scrolled by the option a few times messing with my audio settings.

I know you can have the volume adjust automaically as the speed of the car increases/decreases. Check your settings in the display unit, You may have this option enabled

The 6th gen definately has speed sensing volume control. Its adjustable through the setting on the right button.

Yep, as he said, it definitely has it. Push in the big round button on the right (the one that looks like the volume button) and it's at the end of that menu I believe. As for the buttons not working sometimes, I have no clue

The speed sensitive setting though should not noticeably change the volume of the audio, and it definitely shouldn't show the volume indicator on the display screen. Yes, it'll increase the volume with speed, but its meant to keep the audio at the same relative level, you shouldn't really be able to notice any specific point where the audio changes. On the other hand, I dont have the SSV setting on HIGH, so that may be different.

One thing that annoys me is that you can't use the steering wheel selector to seek through available stations in the area, you can only cycle through your preset ones. It'd be nice if you are on a long trip to be able to "channel surf" using the steering wheel buttons, then have a button to switch back between the preset scanning and just all-channel scanning.

That's what I was figuring, I think I have it set on low. It's never worked that way before so I don't think it would just start.

It does noticably change the volume while the speed changes. It's never moved the volume level. Plus this was more of a change then it makes on it's own. Also, it was doing it at any speed, most noticably on the freeway at a constant 70mph.

I'm pretty sure it's a short in the connector. However, I have no idea how I'd even get in there. AllData doesn't have any info on the Maxima yet. I'd really don't want to take it to my "local" nissan dealer, and the next closes one is about 40 miles away.

if you hit the button on the steering wheel once, it'll change to your preset
channels. If you push it up(or down) and HOLD it, it'll search...

that's what i did...i think...i'm not so sure tho...i don't listen to the radio
that much...
