I just don't get Nissan
OK getting gas and a brand new Max (temp tag in window) pulls in next to me. So being the Max-head I am I check it out. The guy says he went to the dealer (diff then my dealer) on Thursday to finalize the deal and sales guy says they have the exact car coming in right now. He watched it come off the truck that eve and got it on Friday 4/30. Now for the part that ****es me off....I looked at the vin the last 6 are 909xxx. The last 6 of the car I have on order (that the dealer is not getting until next week) is 908xxx. What the f*** his car was made after mine, he has his and I have to wait another week to get mine.....I just don't get it. I want my Max.

Man that sucks! I feel you! I would be in the same frame of mind as you right now... How can a car manufactured BEFORE the other guy's arrive AFTER the one that you ordered, both originating from the same factory??? Different cargo company? I don't know how the dealerships workout there delivery/shipment of cars... You should just call your dealer's Manager anonymously and pose a hypothetical scenario to him that matches yours and just see what he spits out... Play him/her...@ least so you can try and understand why they're taking so long w/ yours... My input @ least...

There is a beautiful silver 5 speed '04 Maxima with sunroof, driver's preferred package, VDC, TCS, full spare with alloy wheel, etc, sitting on my dealer's back lot. It arrived Friday or Saturday. I drool every time I go look at it.
I would show the VIN here, but I don't want to hurt my buddy's (95max) feelings.

Aw, what the heck; maybe it will give him more ammo in his situation.
The VIN is 1N4BA41E74C912464.

95max - The '04 5sp SL with vin serial 912464 is at Nissan of Union City, about a dozen miles southwest of Atlanta International Airport.
Nashville (Smyrna) to/from Atlanta is a very busy rail/interstate corridor, easily driven in four hours or so.
Enginehead (VQ35DE) is correct. VIN numbers are issued in sequence. I am not positive, however, that cars always travel down the assembly line in exact VIN order. Non-special order cars may be in order, but special orders may diverge.
A VIN is issued as preassembly paperwork for a special order car is being set up . There might be some slight holdup if something needed for that order is not immediately at hand. I am mostly surmising here.
One area where I am not surmising is the fact that any order tuns to organized chaos as soon as the car clears the assembly line. Some cars may sit in huge lots at Smyrna for weeks as loads are organized in what customers would consider anything but logical order.
We are now ending a period of several months where new vehicles desperately sought by dealers (such as the Titan) have been hogging the prime spots in most loads. Just in the last week or two, I am again seeing an influx of Maximas.
Another possible holdup is where the vehicles are unloaded. There are large lots at unloading points, also. Normally, nothing is taken to the dealer until a full load has accumulated. For low-volume dealers, that might be weeks.
Even volume dealers sometimes find their lot crowded and put a hold on incoming traffic. Unfortunately, few dealers bother to note whether any of the vehicles being held at the unloading point are special order.
Lastly, cars are usually unloaded at dealers by the trailerload. They are then parked on a back lot, where they sit as the dealer's 'pre-prep' and 'prep' folks process them as time is available. Their priority is, of course, the final prepping of cars that are being bought off the lot.
I hope your dream car arrives soon. Waiting can be so very frustrating.

95Max - Nothing is certain, but the earliest I saw a car show up in Nissan's version of my dealer's inventory before the car arrived was three days. More often, it was one or two days.
I'll bet your car will be either at the deramp lot (somewhere in your area) or your dealer's back lot no later than this weekend.
Wish I could see your face the first time you see it!

The cars are obviously on 2 different trucks with 2 different drivers.
The truck your car is on may have had more stops than the other truck.
There are numerous reasons why your car is not at your dealer yet.
I know how you feel because I went though the same exact thing.
Enjoy your Max when you get it!

95Max - I am glad your new Max with serial 908ddd is finally here. If it had not arrived, I know you would have been royally ticked when I told you a silver '04 Max SL with driver preferred pkg and power sunroof, serial 913404 (FIVE THOUSAND HIGHER THAN YOURS!) arrived at my dealer the same day your car arrived.
Somehow, somewhere, someway, either in setup, assembly, loading, transit, unloading or movement to dealer, your Maxima had a major delay. I feel Nissan sort of owes you an explanation and an apology.
For both your sanity and the wellbeing of this board, I am thankful you beauty is finally here.

Also, don't forget that Manufacturers usually have a lot full of cars before they are even released to the public. Chances are yours was built, parked and sit waiting to be ordered or shipped. The pile get's added to every day. It's not uncommon to have VIN's spread out all over the place. Glad you finally got it though.
